PHILOSOPHY

"No why" is something my Chinese students always said when I'd ask them, well, "why?"

Originally it just meant they were too lazy/unwilling to formulate a response in English and just wanted to stonewall me, but it grew on me as a sort of philosophical rejection of self-doubt and a commentary on how this life is ultimately meaningless until you make it meaningful.

Wise little bastards.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't actually couchsurfed before, but I have used it to make some friends in places I've been traveling, particularly in Germany. It really opened my eyes about the importance of being able to experience a place with the people who live there, and that the only way to travel is to make those kind of connections. Otherwise we're just sightseeing.

Interests

I write, read, play music, travel, talk too much etc etc. Currently obsessed with learning Chinese and living in New York, as those are the two things I am doing most actively at the moment.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot of older English/American lit (whatever I can get my hands on for a buck or download for free) but contemporary things elude me. I like poetry. EDM and rock and roll and A Tribe Called Quest, I don't know. Listing your interests is a sure way of demystifying your personality and I don't want to do that just yet.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm living right in the middle of Bushwick, Brooklyn, NYC, USA; loads of art/music/bars/whatever your wide-eyed city dreams are calling out for.

I can't promise I'll be able to host, as I have 3 other roommates to contend with (and the couch is in the living room, which is very central to the functioning of a crowded house full of guys with odd schedules), but on a case by case basis, and if the time is right, it's a possibility.
