About Me

I'm a freelance radio producer and journalist based in Melbourne, but tend to work a fair bit in South East Asia. I also do some teaching at one of the universities here (teaching writing, photojournalism, radio etc), and make podcasts. I grew up in between India, the US, Australia and the UK - so a bit of a wanderer by nature. Have lived in France and Mexico, so speak French and Spanish. Love good food and cooking, good conversation, good books, the outdoors. I play drums in a band in Melbourne. Try to keep busy and out of trouble, basically!

My website, which has some of my work on it, is: http://www.janakrogers.com/

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Share and share alike. After all, we're all good people and mostly looking to find real others rather than suntans and postcards when we go travelling. Anything that furthers that goal, I say, can only be good.

Have been both a couchsurfer and couchsurfee.

Music, Movies, and Books

I know it's something of cliche these days, but Kerouac really did change my life. I read everything he wrote then and swung a pack on my back with all the wide-eyed wonder that he wanted of me. I wasn't disappointed, either. Not entirely. But others have changed my life, too: Salinger, Dostoyevski, Neruda, Primo Levi, even Jane Austen, who reminds me that most things in life, are, after all, quite agreeable.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to work on a pirate ship with a guy called Sinbad.

True story, by the way!

(Ok, so the pirate ship was a fair ground ride.. but still).

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, can certainly teach radio, photography etc. I cook tasty Indian food as well.
