About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To fill my life with valuable memories, moments and people

ABOUT ME

At the moment I'm one of those weird people who say.. I never thought it but I love my job. I love teaching... It's important to me to be a witness as young people grow into young adults with their own voices and futures.

Observing, helping, inspiring, entertaining, supporting, mediating, counselling, managing, reporting, meeting, negotiating, arguing, fuming, learning, laughing and waking students up from staring out the window are just some of the things I find I have to do everyday.

i've taken myself on a twist this year and heading out to teach in a remote aboriginal community. So now instead of reading essays andworking only with teenagers... I get to sing, dance, read stories and happily make a mess with kids from 5-15years old.

Out here it's all about walking, bike riding, photography, fishing, camping, painting and relaxing. I'm great at six of these.... I'm pretty bad at fishing!

PHILOSOPHY

Enjoying life and embracing the difficulties, confusing things and surprises life throws in our path.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As I'm so remote I don't expect to see too many people take me up on a couch but if you can get here I can see what I can do to help you. Things to remember out here are that it's all 4WD, there is only one main store and it can be pretty pricey and you are coming into aboriginal land so contact the Kowanyama Lands Office to let them know your coming.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I've mostly been based in Brisbane or here since joining I've been more active in meetings, adventures and helping people feel welcome.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music... I listen to Triple J alot. I think it's the best radio station! I've gone through many phases of swing and jazz. Plus I'm a very big fan of local live music... Brissy's pretty busy in that respect.

Living remote means I have a lot of time to read and watch videos... which I do ... but I'm not fussy. Some times a bike ride is all I really need.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sat in a tree in Brisbane with some wonderful company for many hours on Saturday! That was pretty amazing. Here in Kowanyama... Kites, like hawks, are so prevalent that during lunch time they circle and swoop around the school play ground in groups of forty or so waiting eagerly to snatch sandwiches out of hands. I always remember to have spare band aids in my pockets.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll teach what ever I can. I'm better at providing opportunities to learn. I'll share with you my time and, if your adventurous enough to make it out to Kowanyama, you'll get to share the experience of living in a remote Australian Indigenous community for a short while.
