About Me

CURRENT MISSION

The world is my oyster and yours. Let's crack it open and see what it's all about!

ABOUT ME

Here is Carrboro, where I lived 4 years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImfDX4S75pM
After that, I lived in Chapel Hill and spent a good amount of time in Durham.
But now I have a house in Hillsborough. All this area is The Triangle, and it's awesome!

I am kind of a quiet, pensive person and yet easygoing. I'm not too picky in my activities- going out staying in- I like almost everything. :) I have a very eclectic group of friends too. Having experiences is much more important than having things!

PHILOSOPHY

Live life the best way you know how, but respect others' ways of doing things. Listen to others in order to learn. Take care of the environment. Take care of friends and family. Help out in whatever little ways you can, and know that what you do matters because we're all in this together. Spread joy, not sorrow!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I found out about couchsurfing in 2006 but didn't use it much until summer 2008 when I stayed with CSers all over Europe. I set up a tapas gathering in Madrid and attended the international CS meeting in Prague. Summer 2009 I surfed a little in Western US. Summer 2010 I was in Eastern Europe and then decided to stay in my favorite, Berlin. For the next year I hosted quite a bit. Fall 2011 I was in Guatemala. In 2012 I was in Nicaragua. The next few years I kept my place open for hosting. Now I can just meet people in town, but I like doing that, so hit me up!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stayed with an incredibly generous family for 3 months in an area way out in the boonies of Nicaragua. They taught me how to bake bread in a clay oven and how to get cows to stay in one place by giving them salt to lick(plus how to milk & give antibiotics), how to sing Catholic songs, how to sell coffee and bread.... They exposed me to their rural life and welcomed me even though I was a complete stranger. I will have fond memories of them for life and have promised visited once since and hopefully more times.

Teach, Learn, Share

What you might learn from me, (and what I want to learn):
How to care for and entertain children. I am full of ideas for cheap, safe fun.

How to use social media, write to sell something or write in journalistic style.

How to organize your ideas or your stuff. To simplify.

How to speak English or the basics of Spanish, or I could give you your very first Mandarin lesson. (I want to speak Spanish bastante. I am learning Mandarin slowly.) I am great at explaining points of English grammar. I like teaching all ages.

How to ride a bike... well, I am willing to try to teach you or go on a long ride with you. I can help you decide which kind to buy. I love bikes!

I like cooking and like to do that with others and share recipes.

Also, I want to learn how to better garden organically/ w permaculture. I am growing vegetables and herbs with minimal success. I would like to know about native plants in NC, so I'm studying with a "plant guy" on Fridays before my Mandarin Chinese lesson. ;).
