About Me

UPDATE 2016:
It's been quite some time since I've logged in and there are some changes I need to get used to. One minute. There, all done!

This summer (northern hemisphere summer that is) my dear friend and fellow couch surfer and I will be traveling together to the Scotland, the UK, and all over Spain (where I an decided on crashing a wedding). Our final destinations differ however as she is returning to South America via Buenos Aires and I Aruba before I return to Memphis where I will start classes two weeks after my arrival.

So far the delicate details of our voyage have yet to be established, but we are on wanderlust mode and this must be addressed like an an itch needs needs a scratch.

ABOUT ME

I was raised in the US, Paraguay, Chile and Peru. She's bilingual Spanish/English and can speak Portuguese and Guarani conversationally. I am a US public school teacher.

Something happened in 2015, it was life calling me back. As I write these words we enter the new year and I find myself utterly lost in my adulthood. Years have gone by like this, but like a dry tap in a drought i have a thirst for travel and finding the meaning to my life, and the beginning of the circle I tried to escape with reason.

I have letters of acceptance from Ivy Leagues, no debt and great credit. Any person in my shoes would be planning further ahead into their future. But I left something behind, my heart.

I love my job, but I sacrificed my heart to meet my ambitions. Now, yearn for it to come back to me and am planning my crusade to find it. I don't want to look back and say "what if?", so I am coming.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that the key to understanding man and the environment and man IN the environment is in developing countries like the one I live in now and the ones around the world, where disease and famine infest the land... its really not that bad at all!!!,some people just make it seem that way so their population can stay hooked on their consumers system and never ever EVER want to venture outside the rabbits hole. Nothing personal, but I just wish people would just open their eyes and put their differences aside so we could all get along!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I believe that cultural exchange is the positive aspect of this globalized world, where monopolizing economies and homogeneous communities domain. Cultural awareness around the world is important to maintain cultural diversity. How will we really know what goes in on the other side of the world by just reading history books, Wikipedia or watching the Travel Channel? Understanding it is a personal experience, no one can tell you what it's really all about, you have to experience it for yourself. We open our doors to the world as they open theirs to us in a safe environment. In my neighborhood and in neighborhoods all around the world, people don't open their doors anymore to anyone at all. We are living in a technological era where we spend most of our time punching keys onto a screen to something we don't really know.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Interests

1. I love learning new stuff and implementing it in our day to day: It doesn't matter to us if it's weird t 'unconventional'; if it's useful we'll use it!
2. Outdoorsy things: everything that can be done outdoors, is done outdoors.
3.Enjoy the journey: we never really have to be anywhere and have a relaxed lifestyle. It'ts not getting there that's always the most important part of the journey.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Independent movies and documentaries, specially the ones made in developing countries are my favorite, Frankie likes action, "cerebral mystery" movies and other 'bro' movies. and TV: We really like to watch educational TV, the only show we make a point to watch is Family Guy, mostly because it's funny to watch Frankie watch Family Guy on TV. He can laugh so hard at times, saliva comes out of his nose. Music: we listen to everything except hard rock and heavy metal (I used to be a head banger in my youth, now I just want some quiet;) ) Books: I ready anything I can get my hands on, except self-help books. I don't need them (yet!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1. I've lived in 4 different countries by the time I was 18.
2. I touched precolombian cave painting in Cerro Cora, Paraguay
3. Represented Paraguay at Children's Day in 1992 (Big bird and Mr Rogers were there!)
3. Giant pelicans up close in Sarasota Bay
4. Little ants taking apart a dead cockroach in my kitchen in Nokomis
