About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to explore and make music with various people / Climb things I shouldn't

ABOUT ME

Lets see... to start, this is the first profile update I've done in years.

I am a musician, a rock climber, and a web designer. Sometimes I train for climbing (read: bouldering) too much and hurt myself... (actually most of the time; damned weak tendons / ligaments!). In between I teach guitar and code websites :) Sometimes I think too much... sometimes I don't think enough.

I am usually, if not always, down for random adventures. I am not nearly traveled enough given my love of random adventures.

Summer days in Vancouver are usually spent on the beach with a guitar/book, in the boulder fields in Squamish, or consuming too much craft beer (or a combination thereof).

I enjoy discussions, debates, exploration, and generally anything thoughtful or arty.

PHILOSOPHY

I aim to continue learning as much as I can on a daily basis, be it music or history or current events or on a more personal level.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have had tons of CS experience since I attended my first meeting in Montreal years ago. I've made many friends, hosted several people, and surfed many places. I've drank with, climbed with, hiked with, jammed music with, and much more, with may CS'ers in many different cities.

I even climbed a big mountain with fellow CS'ers after they were kind enough to include me in their rope team :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS introduced me to some of the most memorable people and experiences in my life. Lasting friendships, 1-off adventures, the kindness of strangers, and much more.

In other words, woot.

Interests

I like music, all kinds. I enjoy reading and conversation about things. I boulder a lot and occasionally try to remind myself to climb roped routes too. I also want to do more mountaineering.
Adventures are always a good thing too.

And finally, people... people with a passion for life and for other people...

urban centers and cities that are alive, and remote mountaintops untouched by most.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love most to all types of music... and play most of it as well! Jazz, funk, wordly, fusion, blues, rock, classical, metal, indie, and some less classifiable stuff.

For books my favorite would be engaging fiction with existential themes.. or good philosophy essays / aphorisms.

Movies - Depends on my mood... sometimes anything simply entertaining... though I do love a good doc. Big Lebowski is always classic too. And kungfu epics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Was in downtown Chicago when Obama got elected.
-Was on wall street when the market started crashing.

-Accidentally found my way into a private luthier's party at the jazz fest in montreal and ended up playing on stage for the worlds best guitar makers.

-While standing on the summit of Mt.Baker, saw steam and gas shooting out of the crater below us. (apparently its an active volcano... hahaha.. who knew?)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always happy to jam music with new people!

I can also educate people on our local climbing / bouldering areas around Vancouver. I have a healthy stash of crash pads, guides, and knowledge. (sorry no rope / draws but I do know tons of crags to climb at if you have the gear)

I am also happy to trade thoughts on various subjects concerning philosophy, history, world events... etc.

Currently I would like to learn more about alpine climbing / mountaineering / ice climbing.
