About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet interesting people and experience different cultures.... maybe do some hiking, diving, sailing, and fishing, along the way...

ABOUT ME

My personal homepage and blog is at www.kaliktime.com. My Youtube channel is at www.youtube.com/user/dbowen0849 ... Lots of short sailing and scuba diving videos here. I'm an avid sailor, hiker, and scuba diver...(Advanced Padi), fisherman...esp flyfishing, hiker, and camper. I have sailed across both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. I live northwest of Washington, DC in Frederick, MD.

PHILOSOPHY

Life's short...... go where you wanna go....do what you wanna do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I enjoy traveling and I enjoy helping people visiting in the Maryland/Washington DC area when I'm home. I do keep a boat on the Chesapeake Bay that I'm on a lot in the summer and can be used to stay on .... or we can go sailing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of mine has been on moving couches......sailboats......lol.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea was the trip of a lifetime for me. We were aboard the 120 foot ketch "Infinity" and traveled 300 miles up the river, visiting many villages(nose piercings, crocodile backs) and seeing a lot of artwork(carvings, masks). The people are unbelievably friendly.

Teach, Learn, Share

Sailing......I have 30+ years sailing experience .... owned boats including a Hunter 34 for a very long time and now I help other people with their travels by sail, whether it be coastal cruising or crossing an ocean. I have crossed both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and have logged more than 25k blue water miles. ...... I also have a lot of fly fishing experience and have taught Bahamian bonefish guides how to cast a fly rod. Diving?? .. I'm certified advanced PADI but you had better go find a certified instructor.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Lots of travel stories, a friendly conversation, an interested ear, and a bottle of wine.
