About Me

CURRENT MISSION

On a European walkabout to see more of the world.

ABOUT ME

I moved to Rwanda as a sign language researcher with VSO in 2007, then moved back there in 2014 to start a consultancy company and never left again. I also started tuning pianos and trying to build one as there aren't many in the vcountry. I rarely leave Africa and have decided to go on a European adventure, visiting friends and seeing more of the world. Also learning to ride a motorbike. Possible mid-life crisis!

PHILOSOPHY

Life is a series of choices. For every choice you make, you can always make another. Pick a direction - if you don't like it, go the other way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In the past I've hosted a number of people, some remain friends to this day. Always enjoy meeting new people and helping them find their feet in this wonderful country.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Always had a great time hosting people. In 2011 I couch surfed my way across Europe on a writing retreat to the Polish border. Really appreciated the hospitality.

Interests

I write dark historical and fantasy novels, tune and fix pianos, and have a YouTube channel about life in Rwanda and my travels. Books, food, putting the world to rights.

Music, Movies, and Books

Far too many to list, and they change daily :)

If I had to choose one book: The Seduction of Silence by Bem Le Hunte or The Binding by Bridget Collins.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Stood next to a wild mountain gorilla. Survived an earthquake. Driven across Australia from Sydney to Perth. Stood in the centre of Armenia's Stone Henge (Karahunj)...

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Creative writing and piano tuning.

Learn: New authors, good music, new recipes.

Share: Strange tales, dirty jokes and a bottle of waragi (lethal Ugandan war gin).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Happy to cover basic expenses. If you have a piano, I can check it over and tune it (if you have the kit). Can return the hospitality if you're ever visiting Rwanda.

Countries I’ve Visited

Armenia, Australia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Laos, Poland, Sierra Leone, Uganda

Countries I’ve Lived In

Rwanda, United Kingdom
