About Me

*** PLEASE READ: ***

We unfortunately are still not back in the swing of things, regarding socializing and meeting people. It's just weird to us after the last couple of years, but we're trying. 🤞 Please also try other hosts beside us, the Berlin CS community's really awesome. :)

CURRENT MISSION

Finish the program at ATN School to become a licensed dog trainer in Germany and keep helping my friends at the rescue org, even after my dogs are retired.
This is the rescue organisation's website: https://rhs-mantrailer-berlin.de/

ABOUT ME

I live with my husband Dirk, whose profile you can find here: https://couchsurfing.page.link/Eh4KDWoy5PR4sD286 or here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/1197607/profile , and with our German Shepherd girls "Wicked" and "Lynn" in Berlin, Germany. We're all always open to meeting all you nice people for drinks or coffee, while hosting is, unfortunately, only sometimes possible.

OK First things first:

I talk a lot! Sooo, even though I can enjoy the quiet very much, once I'm in company and it's not the time for quiet enjoyment I hardly shut up. It might be my biggest flaw.

Things I like to talk about:

* art,

* comics,

* movies,

* politics,

* dogs,

* about life in general and whisky specifically.

I also listen to all kinds of music, from classical to electro, but I go almost exclusively to metal concerts.
I play pen and paper roleplaying games (currently playing Serenity, past groups played Shadowrun, Vampire, Steampunk, Fantasy) and do still spend my time on computer games (I actually spent about four years on The Witcher 3, if you can believe it), read comics, hang out with pirates and do generally geeky things, so.... I'm nerdy that way.

PHILOSOPHY:

What happens happens.

.

"To be 'for animals' is not to be 'against humanity.' To require others to treat animals justly, as their rights require, is not to ask for anything more nor less in their case than in the case of any human to whom just treatment is due. The animal rights movement is a part of, not opposed to, the human rights movement. Attempts to dismiss it as anti human are mere rhetoric." ~ Tom Regan (2004). “The Case for Animal Rights”, p.53, Univ of California Press

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started by meeting a few couchsurfers for coffee in Berlin and Edinburgh in 2007 and I liked the experience so much that Dirk and I started to host here in Berlin, and we've never been disappointed. Meeting people from all around the world never gets boring.

So, the flag count is growing by the month, and we're totally confident now, that hosting couchsurfers at our place is a way to spend some very nice hours, and meals, with people we wouldn't have met otherwise. =)

Interests

ART is very central for me.

Check out my stuff on http://www.weltklug.de, but I'm also totally smitten with the hyper realists' way of painting, but especially when it's used in a kind of low-brow context. Can't really explain why... Before that I had a thing for Glenn Brown and before him it was the Pre-Raphaelites and before them it was Edward Hopper, Gerhard Richter.. the list goes on.

Other than that, I'm a political girl, very interested in the way we organize our countries, our communities, our world... In fact, I was a member of the German Pirate Party from around the time of the 2009 European Parliament elections until 2022. I'm leaning towards non-party politics nowadays, I'm very interested in animal rights at the moment, and thinking about UBI for a long while, so politics is a very big interest.

.... and I should mention that the urban agriculture bug got me a while back. I'm always trying to learn new ways of reducing the impact that city living has, not just on the environment as a whole, but on our immediate surroundings especially.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot, or at least I try to, and my taste nowadays runs more towards the non-fiction books.

Books with a great impact have been:

* The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo (I also loved The Milgram Experiment)
* Cosmos by Carl Sagan
* Collapse by Jared Diamond
* Humberto Maturana's "The Tree of Knowledge"
* Climate Changed by Philippe Squarzoni
* Animal Liberation by Peter Singer

Comic-wise I have Joe Sacco on the shelf next to Warren Ellis and Mat Johnson. Right now I read more than half the titles Image puts out and I really really love Terry Moore's work. And then there's that "Hellblazer" addiction...

My movie preferences pretty much go along the same lines as the comics: I'm into every kind of fantastic film - Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy - but won't turn down a good political piece, documentary or historical film.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Yes, I've experienced a few moments of magic,...

like the one time I ordered a pizza at 3 a.m. in January and the sky had turned orange and it was snowing like hell and that pizza was still hot!

And New Year in Berlin is always magic! Always!

Teach, Learn, Share

Uhm, I can speak German and I'm not bad at elementary school maths.. ^-^
I'm an acceptable cook and could probably pass on some vegan German recipes. Besides that I can't really think of anything..

oh wait...

I can knit. =)

Sooooo.... I'd always love to learn me a new recipe, or a few words in any foreign language. And if you're a snooker champion, by any chance, I'd love to take a few lessons.
