About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel/Teach in several foreign countries

ABOUT ME

I've retired early in order to indulge my love for travel and making new friends world-wide. I have taught English (ESL) in Roumania, Central America, and Florida. I'm reasonably fit considering the high mileage, a voracious reader, therefore literate, and always searching for new and interesting companions.
Working on a trashy house bought by a friend in Lufkin, TX-much to my dismay-and nearing the end of the project. Next stop: Santa Fe, NM and points north.
I don't have a TV, but DO have a fine audio computer system so I can enjoy my eclectic music as desired. (Especially World Music, John Fogarty, and Leon Redbone) I'm a cat person currently sans cats but several have offered interviews, and there's always the 'coons, possums, occasional bear, and lots of birds fighting over the bird bath. And the neighbor's chickens attempting to prove the adage: the bugs are always jucy-er on the other side of the neighbor's fence.

PHILOSOPHY

Carpe Diem! Caveat Emptor! Eff 'em!

NOTE: THIS REMINDER IS A PART OF ALL MY REFERENCES:
Your host is offering you a place to stay for the night. not full-time room and board. He/She may offer to share their meals with you, and if possible, show you their city. They are NOT required to provide all your meals and transportation, so you should be prepared to contribute to your costs while you are visiting, specially if for more than one day.

Interests

Travel, reading, writing, chatting, exploring, hermiting, writing bitchy letters-to-the-editor, irritating my Republican brother...arguing either side of almost any issue; sharing books with other readers...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Assisting with the birth of my daughter; Icebreaker crashing through 2-meter sea ice in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica; Orcas chasing Adelie penguins through the ice fields; a glowing stream of lava creeping down Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica; earthquake in Guatemala; chasing-and failing to catch-a Hawksbill turtle in the lagoon off Roi-Namur, Kawajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands; teen soldiers in Mexico poking AK-56s through both my truck windows at a roadblock; Bush stealing an election...Bush getting his culo kicked; driving from Costa Rica to Florida; a local crazy trying to steal my camera bag in Casco Viejo, Panama City, Panama-but I had a good grip on the strap and hung on until the Policia Turistas arrived and began firing into the air-a very effective way of bringing everything to a halt in a hurry. I kept the bag-and my sense of humor...but I think I broke a bone in my hand when his forehead hit it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Exchange political information as our media is not reliable (and neither is yours); the more I learn from OUTSIDE the USA the more I'll understand other cultures.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Travel adventures-with only minor exaggerations-political/cultural observations with only a reasonable amount of prejudices, outright pontificating on either side of any issue! I'm also humble. Sorta. Some
