About Me

CURRENT MISSION

devour the planet

ABOUT ME

I play the drums and I work in social housing here in Vancouver. I used to be in a band which toured a lot-so couchsurfing was often needed and gratefully accepted, but not as easily given out! I'm on a break from touring now, so I really will try now as much as I can! Time to pay back some of that amazing hospitality :) I love languages especially, any surfer that is willing to take some time to teach me some nuances of their language is the couchsurfer for me! I love people who make it easy to have fun, and I hope I am one of those too. I would die without music, and sometimes I cry when I eat really delicious food. Food+wine+music+good people=all you need! Laid back travellers who go with the flow will get along with me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Often surfed, never officially hosted though the time has come.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couch surfed for the first time in Rome...one of the most eye opening travel experiences I've ever had- changed my views on how one should try and see the planet. Then when my band started touring we started doing more couchsurfing all over the place. Turns out the kind of hosts that are willing to take in a scraggly band from Canada are the greatest kind of people indeed. I used to always be sad that we'd only have one night in a place on tour. Couchsurfing has alleviated some of that pain :) These days I'm starting to travel again on my own, and am looking forward to meeting a world full of strange and wonderful folks :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies that fold in on themselves. Adaptation is a good one for that. So meta it hurts. Very much love music, love Northern Soul, French Pop, indie, Garage, all the other kinds of rock and roll from all the places on the planet. Cambodian? Nigerian. Yes! and on...I'm not great about finding new music from this present time, but thanks to this internet thing the back catalog expands ever-outwards and is keeping me real busy!

for books, kurt vonnegut, douglas coupland, haruki Murakami, Jonathan Lethem, Roald Dahl, Nick Hornby, philip k. dick, john wyndam, Naomi Klein...books about the end of the world!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Looking out over the edge of the pyramid at Chichen-Itza, hiking around the Orkney Islands, New Orleans during Jazz Festival...the cliff hikes in Cinque Terre, Cliff jumping in the Greek Islands... boating around all the islands that are Stockholm, eating pho on the street in vietnam, horse steak with caramelized onions and red wine in Nyon, playing in a farmers field somewhere in the Swiss alps, sleeping under a tree in a farmers field outside of Bled, Slovenia, hot air balloon ride over Chicago, eating in a pitch black restaurant in Berlin, skinny dipping in a thunderstorm in costa rica, playing at the same club as the Beatles and the Clash did in Hamburg...

Teach, Learn, Share

Cities like Edmonton, where I'm from...ones that sprawl, and have a lot of ugly architecture, and appear to have very little culture, have a really good side, too. They often have the coolest people. There are always little tight pockets of people really into the arts, music, new ideas... so amazing. Why? Because it's way harder to be cool in a city like that, so the people that are are so close, and supportive, and amazing things form from it. You need someone to help you uncover all the hidden gems otherwise it could take forever! couch surf with a local!
