About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Start up a theistically-neutral ministry/"church" or 2, Find My Primary Life Partner, Inspire People to Do Good, Travel, Meet YOU!

ABOUT ME

I'm an eclectic person of many identities. I'm a geek. A human sexuality and mass transit and technology geek. I'm a fangirl. I'm short and fat and weird as all get out. I'm bisexual, genderfluid, and ethically non-monogamous. I'm an extrovert who grew up in the country (so know all about rural life in South-Central PA) but whose true place is in the city as an urbanite. I enjoy cooking and I have a passion for mass transit. I'm a thinker. I love learning about other cultures, especially exploring the differences in them from my own (I find difference to be fascinating), and I love trying new foods. My spirituality comes from many sources (Catholicism, Judaism, Unitarian Universalism, and Radical Faerie-ism) and I love learning about other faiths and comparing the similarities.

I can sing in English, French, German and Croatian. Oh, and pray the Hail Mary and the Sign of the Cross in Croatian, too.

Under ethnicity, I put Geekonian because I feel my geekery affects and influences who I am more than my ethnic heritage does. However, I am aware of and was taught much about my various ethnic heritages growing up and have a sense of self from these cultures. My father's side is Eastern European... Russian and Polish. I grew up eating Polish and Russian food along with American food. (Want to try kielbasa, pierogies and sauerkraut? Let me know.) My mother's side is Western European... mainly English and Welsh, but with some Irish and German thrown in.

And, yes, I'm in the Sleep Naked and the Naturist groups, but I keep my clothes on in the common areas when I have guests in the house, and I wear clothes to sleep when I'm CouchSurfing at someone else's house. So don't let that scare you off.

PHILOSOPHY

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO what a ride!'"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Trying to get all my friends signed up. I really should get more involved with the CS community both online and offline.

I'm also trying to reach out and meet other CSers and get more involved.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted 3 surfers for the Obama Inauguration. It was a lot of fun, even if it was cramped having 3 people stay in my living room and even if the weather was bitterly cold.

As for my surfing experiences, I haven't done anything formally through this site (yet!), but I have a "my couch is your couch" arrangement with most of of my friends. This has allowed me to visit NYC, Long Island, Seattle, Toronto, Wildwood FL, Phoenixville PA, Piscataway NJ and others.

Ask me about the Road Trip from Hell, my trip to Ithaca, NY, for crazy ass couch surfing experiences.

I also spent the day with a visiting CSer, showing him around my city. I'd love to continue doing this with other CSers... need a tour guide for Washington DC? I'm your person! (I'd also love to meet up for coffee or tea & conversation.)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Austin Powers series, American Pie series, Office Space, The Matrix series, darn near anything put out by Pixar, The American President, Sleepless in Seattle, Antitrust, comic book movies and the occasional indy documentary.

Music: a bit of everything, but mainly rock, alternative, electronic/dance, oldies, some classic rock, New Wave, and pop that doesn't suck. Oh, and experimental stuff.

Books: Microserfs by Douglas Coupland is my favorite book of all time. It was life changing for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Flown in an unlicensed, experimental aircraft.

Teach, Learn, Share

Go with your instinct, but know the difference between good instincts and mere cold feet. Buy a good phrasebook and learn it. Say hello, please and thank you, preferably in the native tongue. When you go into stores in Europe, the customer greets the storekeeper. When you go into stores in America, the storekeeper greets the customer. Go figure. And toilets are the one thing that I found is the most different between American and Europe other than the obvious things you expect to be different. If you can't figure out how it flushes, try pushing on top. Oh, and food? Food has to taste good, otherwise people wouldn't eat it. So if it looks like glop, it's probably pretty tasty to make up for the fact that it looks like crap. Just eat it. :-)

Also know that Canada really is a distinct culture from the US, and, just like the US, it has multiple cultures (not to mention multiple Canadian accents). And yes, some Canadians really do buy their milk in bags.

Other stuff? Well, I am a sexual educator, so I'd love to teach you about sexuality, kink, gender, and orientation. I also used to do some origami as a kid.
