About Me

CURRENT MISSION

No real mission as I'm not a preacher - But I want to spread one word: Happiness!

ABOUT ME

Now... thats the hard stuff. I'm a fellow traveller that has just seen a little bit of this world and wants to see and experience as much as I can.
But at the same time I like my country very much, too as there is so much to discover that it would probably last for another life.
My personality is a mixture of a deep german mind joined by a relaxed australian easy going mentality.
Can cook a few dishes, don't need much to feel happy - a place to sleep, a smile, a place to take shower (but this can be a secondary thought as it is not always possible - especially when doing longer hikes), something interesting to discover, a little bit of nature from time to time (I need both: Cities and Landscapes - but not necessarily at the same time).
If possible I have a request: Keep candies out of my sight - Its sad but i have a hard time to control myself... and need to do more sports afterwards :-D

PHILOSOPHY

Travelling is the life changing experience that enables everyone to understand the diversified beauty of our world.

Music, Movies, and Books

So many movies, so much music (but no main stream, please...) -
Enjoy the fantasy worlds of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, as well as the modern fairy tales of Guillermo del Toro and Hayako Miyazaki - and at the same time the more violent stuff of directors like David Fincher, Takeshi Kitano or Miike. This combined with the subtle melancholy of Wong Kar-Wai and the bitterness that lives inside some of Yimou Zhangs movies makes my taste of movies.
Then there are some brilliant documentaries about society, history and near and distant places in german television (actually the only reason why I watch TV...), lovely movies like Amelie, classics like Taxi Driver, Roberto Rosselini, Animes and a mostly unknown movie about the music scene of Istanbul by Fatih Akin called Crossing the Bridge
Music: Indie, Idan Raichel, Sezen Aksu, Salif Keita, Salsa, Latino (as long as it is not too... sweet), Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Midnight Oil, Nick Cave - But I don't run away if you play hiphop, RnB or Metal.
For relaxing times I take classical music (Händel, Bach, Telemann)

Always recommend to read Jared Diamond - Understanding the differences in this world only by (geo)science and evolution -
For evolution there is a brilliant book by David Quammen called "The Song of the Dodo" - nearly 1000 pages about evolution and island biogeography.
Literaturewise my taste is something like Vargas Llosa, Paulo Coelho, Goulds Book of Fishes, True History of the Kelly Gang (about Ned Kelly - Australias equivalent to Jesse James) and yes, I confess, Pablo Neruda and Goethe as well as Nietzsche have still some merits.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Have survived the rain and storm on Irelands West Coast, three days of never ending rain on Abel Tasman, a few german autumns without sunshine, dived in the Great Barrier Reef, slept in a car on a place where the owner warned us: "You can sleep here - but be aware that you might get shot during the night" -
Learned that wherever you go if you have a smile available it comes back and warms you

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, United States, Vatican City State
