About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have fun on the trip through life.

ABOUT ME

A biologist and philosopher inspired by the Pacific Ocean in front of my home. In the non-paying business of describing new species of little animals among the millions of unknown ones sharing this planet with us.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is basically absurd, so why not sit back and enjoy the performance?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

With a house too big for me that always has room for visitors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It is always a delight to find a host to put me up, but I have had even more fun hosting a great diversity of fellow travelers. How else could I meet people like that?

Interests

People, travel, sciences, languages, music, life in all its marvelous manifestions.

Music, Movies, and Books

Any music from Bach to Copland, with as many stops in between as possible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I amazing? Well, a few things of note: I have run the equivalent of once around the earth (that's 40,000km); I have spent a cumulative total of nearly two months under water on scuba; I have described about 80 species of animals new to science.

Teach, Learn, Share

You name it, I'll consider it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

There are several musical instruments (and a tall stack of sheet music) in my house, and guests are welcome to join me in using them or to bring their own to help making sweet sounds. I can point out local and regional hiking trails, give tips on using them and accompany guests on some hikes. And, of course, it's always great fun to share cooking with anyone who passes by. On the Fourth of July, this is the best place anywhere around to enjoy the fireworks.
