We live in downtown Male' and do not keep any pets. Our living space is smoke free; by law in AC areas smoking is not permitted. Important places in Male are accessible by a five minute walk, if you not up to walking I can give you a free ride.
On visiting near by inhabited and uninhabited islands (which is over two thousand) and hide-away islands, depend on availability of ferries and launches beside our friends agreeing to host you for couple of days. Since we are in the middle of Indian Ocean, sea fearers have being flocking to our islands since ancient times. Therefore, people in the islands are hospitable to foreigners and you are expected to respect local culture and sentiments.
As a host I do not encourage Csers to hop into Dhonies and go on island hopping. It should be noted that back-packing tourism is not encouraged in Maldives. Dont ask me for reasons!

Remember that this is an island nation and our airport is on a separate island called Hulhule. When you arrive Male' international airport do change some foreign currency, specially, if you carry Euros, at the Bank of Maldives counter which is near the exit on your left side after customs clearance area. Money changing is one of the two things you should do at the airport. The second thing is buy a Sim card for your mobile. Dhiraagu the local operator will give you a cheaper rate than your home operator.
By the way do not bring any alcohol items and drugs. Alcohol is available on designated tourist facilities and resorts and it will be retained and will be given back before your departure. On drugs: the consequence is familiar.
Once you are out of the terminal follow the local crowd and that will lead you to the ferry jetty.

There is a ferry to Male every 15 mns. You have to pay USD 1 or MRF 10.
Keep me informed of your flight and you can expect me waiting at Male jetty to receive you and if I happen to be busy at that hour than I will receive you there. If I'm busy than surely one of my trusting friend will receive you.
Once you are in Male you are welcome to take part in our coffee meetings. Sometimes late in the evenings we sit under the bright star-shining open sky and sip coffee into early hours of the day.
Do not worry! You will enjoy your stay in the Maldives! you can ask some of my couchsurfer. On your sleeping arrangements it depends where you stay! I mean on which island! Sometimes you will get VIP hospitality and sometimes the setting might be of a social atmosphere! It depends. But you wont be disappointed.
Do Remember! Couch Surfing is about learning from each other, sharing and appreciating different customs and cultures.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined in November 20th, 2007....but I imagine I will be passing this around by word of mouth. So far I have hosted and met people for coffee/drinks/dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Hosting CS guests were delightful to have. I look forward to more visitors. Maybe someday I will surf a couch also. Through the chat that was discontinued I made some dear friends and we keep in touch...some I have met face to face...was wonderful!
