About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make new friends from the comfort of my own home, offer comfort to travelers, and show off my cool city

ABOUT ME

We are retired, empty-nesters with 5 adult kids off on their own. Even though we are what most couch-surfers would consider geezers, we love hosting travelers.

We took a hiatus from hosting for a while and moved from suburban Connecticut to urban Pittsburgh, PA. My husband and I now have a much more exciting environment to offer.

PHILOSOPHY

We are pretty white middle class - we enjoy a comfortable life and are not very wild or crazy. Our kids might call us boring. I prefer to think of us as stable.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've hosted several couch surfers from the U.S. and abroad. We hosted a French exchange student through Rotary (and our daughter stayed with her family in France) and French architects in the U.S. studying American architecture.

Interests

Food - we are a family of foodies. We cook, bake, eat in, dine out. There are some really good restaurants in our area and we are on a quest to try them all.

We also love theater, museums, movies, and read a lot... the usual.

We travel quite a bit, too.

We have two dogs and a cat. Fair warning: The dogs are nuts and take a while to get used to strangers.

My city... Pittsburgh is a hip town with lots of great restaurants, museums, festivals, rivers, universities. We are close to Carnegie Mellon, Chatham University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Music, Movies, and Books

I prefer chick lit and romantic comedy movies. My husband reads about business and entrepreneurship.

We listen to our generation's music - old rock and roll - Steely Dan, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc

We listen to NPR - that should tell you a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Greatest Life Achievement: Raise five kids.

Most amazing natural experience: Zion National Park in Utah is heaven on earth.

Cool life experience: I was one of the first women athletic trainers at a university (back in the early 1980s). It was definitely an old boys club, I was a pioneer and feminist.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could definitely teach someone to cook, bake or garden.
My husband can teach about business.

We would love to share our passion for life.

We also did a fairly good job of raising kids and sending them off into the world.
