CURRENT MISSION

Hello future friend :D

I discovered CS on exchange in Japan in 2007 (old-school, I know!). Since then, it has been an incredible part of my life with many of my most cherished experiences/friends manifesting via CS shenanigans.

I bunkered down in my home city, Melbourne, during the pandemic. Part of me wishes that I was still drifting with the solar winds but I’m loving the beating pulse of everyday existence and kind of enjoying nesting.

I'm deeply in awe with the universe's beauty and love sharing celestial dances across cosmic oceans with fellow celebration partners. If we're in a city together and organise ideas the other hasn't, mischief can be managed :D

WHERE ARE YOU FROM

I always struggle with the 'question'. I try not to ask it, but prefer listening and sharing the contents of our minds. I think that's a better reflection of where you're really from.

WHAT DO YOU DO

I’m helping to grow a really cool digital bank, Up. Before that I founded a media company, The Plus Ones, after being an investor for several years. It's not really what I 'do' though and I'd never view the 'job' as the crucible of my individuality. I prefer wilderness dance parties, reading, listening with compassion, living outside my bunker of certainty and maximising hammock time :D

WHERE ARE YOU GOING NEXT

I try to celebrate my good fortune in the cosmic lottery by dwelling peacefully in the present moment :) Although I would love to listen to your experiences to find the 'next' destination.

..now that we have those out of the way ;) Haha, I understand why these are the questions people ask. It helps to place people in a bucket, but I think we're all too complex for labels. Those questions are also about the 'there' and 'then' but we can only be here, in the 'now'. I feel that the stunningly vibrant now is the only place that we need to be. It's the only place where we can feast on life, here and now, with all of the other system-buckers and risk takers.

Woah, I wrote that paragraph a while ago and feel that it couldn’t ring more true. After all my experiences, memories are really only fragments. All that really mattered, was being in the moment and expanding into it with those around me ✨

PHILOSOPHY

You are only free when you realise you belong no place - you belong every place - no place at all. The price is high. The reward is great. I like to follow my instincts/intuition. I feel as though intuition is a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and where we are able to know everything because it’s all written.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting - I hosted quite a lot when I had my own place. From this I learned the joy of hosting and learning about people from all over the world. It's a bit harder to host now because I'm in a different city each month. However when I have my own place I still try to sneak in a surfer or two ;)

Events - during CS's hay day (I'm calling it the golden period from 2011-2013) I organised hundreds of events with friends around town. Bar crawls, free chocolate nights, walking tours, free beer events, making scarecrows, concerts in parks. These again formed some of my favourite memories and gave travellers an insider perspective into the wonderful city of Melbourne.
