About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Gaining perspective and effecting change

ABOUT ME

Am a New Yorker of sorts (born in Russia, raised in Boston, but the NYC area has been home for almost 15 years now). Recently married and living in Jersey City with my husband, Jeffrey and our two (fur) babies, Bluebell and Nola. I am happiest when I'm going on, coming back from, or planning a trip. Find me on IG at janeylovestravel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I discovered couch surfing while traveling through Southeast Asia. It is a wonderful idea. When I lived alone, I made myself (and my apartment) available to kindred spirits coming through NYC. It has been a while since I hosted (our apartment is not as good for it), but am always interested in meeting people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

There haven't been so many, but they were all memorable.. Cambodia, Vietnam and, most recently, Prague. I am excited about getting into hosting.

Interests

Traveling, reading, volunteering, museums, sightseeing, random adventures... I like things that make me look at my world through a new lens. I'm also a sucker for pretty things.

Music, Movies, and Books

My bookshelves are full. I adore Tom Robbins and Haruki Murakami. Last book I read was the Red Rising Series, and am currently re-reading Oryx & Crake to get into the MaddAdam trilogy. I don't watch movies as often as I should, and I tend to take on musical selections from the people I'm with at the time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I happened to be in New Orleans a week before Katrina and went back there to volunteer in January, 2006. It was sad, and humbling, but the stories I heard were just amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have my share of travel stories: Sketchy Southeast Asia hotel stories; Volunteering in New Orleans post-Katrina; Burning Man 2007; Mardi Gras 2007; an insane 8 country in 2 week bonanza in 2003.

I'd love to hear about people's experiences living or traveling in other countries, particularly Asia and Africa.
