About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

Dora is a film and flea market maniac, when she doesn't watch a film from such directors as Gondry, Greenaway or Herzog, she collects old jewelleries from local flea markets or sews some weird little creatures out of nice fabrics. She's really into old and used beautiful objects.

Marci is into art, composing music, computers, environmentalism. He was acting in a movie called 'Afterlife' and has an electroacoustic experimental improvisational band called 12z.

PHILOSOPHY

We're not religious in a traditional way but zen is pretty close to our philosophy. Marcel Duchamp and John Cage are two key figures for us.
It means we don't bother if we don't live our lives to the full especially when we'd do it at the expense of something or somebody. Sometimes it's better to do nothing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We host and meet other members and try to help them out as quickly as we can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We met Canadian people in 2003 on the streets of Budapest and showed them around twice while having good conversations.
In Finland in 2006 we randomly stumbled into Tim in the city (three times), we became friends.
Since then we got involved in CS and hosted many people in our home.

Interests

Anything related to film, art, music, performances, photography. And of course the beautiful flea markets and unique second hand shops of a certain city.
Favourite trackers are secret-cinema.net, karagarga.net, what.cd, waffles and brokenstones.me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Musicwise experimental, indie rock, post-rock, alternative, industrial rock, and ethno-jazz. To have a more exact image on our music taste:
Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Bat for Lashes, Beastie Boys, Beck, Björk, Blur, Bonobo, Brian Eno, Chikinki, Cinematic Orchestra, Codona, Cure, David Bowie, Dead Can Dance, Devo, Fred Frith, Four Tet, Grinderman, Igor Stravinsky, Jaga Jazzist, Jane's Addiction, John Cage, John Frusciante, King Crimson, Massive Attack, Micachu, Mike Patton, Ministry, Mouse On Mars, Nine Inch Nails, Peace Orchestra, Pink Floyd, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Porno For Pyros, Primus, Radiohead, Secret Chiefs 3, Steve Reich, Sonic Youth, Tom Waits, Tortoise, Tosca, To Rococo Rot, Tricky, Xploding Plastix, White Stripes, Menomena, Yeasayer, Frank Zappa (just to name a few because the collection wouldn't fit in this textbox).

Dora's favourite film director and scriptwriter is Michel Gondry - she also likes those bands, to whom he created videos. Both into films, basically from Godard to Gondry, from 'Donnie Darko' to 'Back To The Future' or 'Gummo'. Some more titles: The phantom of liberty from Bunuel, Me and you and everyone we know, Blood tea and red strings, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Lost highway from David Lynch, Breaking the waves from Lars von Trier. We also like several hollywood movies because there are some very creative filmmakers like Tim Burton or special favourites like "Gummo" by Harmony Korine and "The Holy Mountain" by Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Marci's favourite books are those classics: 'The Master and Margarita', 'Arthur Gordon Pym' from E.A. Poe, 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' from Gabriel García Márquez and so on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Near to Uusikaupunki, Finland on a small private island we ran out from the sauna to the sea.
In Ireland we traveled ca. 7 hours from Dublin to lay down on the warm edge of the Dún Aonghasa cliffs on Inis Mór (Aran Islands).
We also rented bikes on the Isle of Mull, Scotland then we visited Staffa and slept in a bay of Iona island for a few hours.

Teach, Learn, Share

Dora's good at film theory and film history, but she's also opened to learn any novelty in this topic. Otherwise she can be easily enthusiastic, if the theme is convincing.
We'd like to learn more cooking tricks because usually we just improvise with vegetables, seeds and fish.
