About Me

Hey there adventurer!

My name is Jocelyn and I'm a lover of all things outdoors. I live in Auburn, CA (the endurance capital of the WORLD!) with my husband, Albert, and our silly, lovable black lab, Banner. We also have a cat, whom we affectionately call "cat". :) Albert is an organic vegetable farmer and I'm an ICU nurse at a major hospital. We love to spend our free time hiking, backpacking, lounging by the American River, mountain biking, running, paddle boarding, rafting/kayaking, drinking beer from one of our many local breweries, etc. Auburn is such a great place to live because the outdoor activities are endless! We also live just 2 hours from San Francisco, and 45 min away from North Lake Tahoe (about 1.5 hrs from South Lake Tahoe). If you're considering to visit, don't hesitate to contact me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Back in my 20's I used couchsurfing to travel around Europe for 3 months. Gave back by hosting a bit while living in San Francisco for school. And now I find myself in my 30's with a full time career, but the travel bug is rearing it's head once again! Couchsurfing was far and away my most favorite way to travel because of the friendships you make and because you learn so much more about the place your visiting and how locals spend their time. It's been such a privilege to host and to be hosted throughout the years.

As my husband and I find ourselves getting "older", and with the trappings of full-time work, we're wanting to make travel a priority again. Affordable travel is challenging, but doable! I'm an all-in couchsurfing mega-fan, but my husband is very weary and skeptical (ie, scared!). I have little doubt that he's going to fall in love with couchsurfing as soon as he gets a taste of it!

Interests

Much of my time is occupied by my job as an medical/surgical ICU nurse. My husband is knowledgeable in all things organic, no-till, vegetable farming, so if you've got questions there, he's your guy. We met while working in Yosemite National Park, which is like a second home to us even though we don't live there anymore. I'm an experienced hiker/backpacker (I've hiked the John Muir Trail and Camino de Santiago, both over 200mi) and Albert's an experienced climber and obsessed with bikes. We enjoy SCUBA diving, snorkeling, and all things warm weather related. But if we're forced to do cold weather activities, we enjoy snowshoeing and skiing. We also enjoy seeing live music, eating delicious foods, and dancing like silly weirdos!

I spend a lot of my free time with my dog, Banner, going on adventure walks and swims in the canyon of the American River. Lots of hiking, biking, and swimming to do here! I also experienced white water rafting for the first time on the South Fork and highly recommend!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is such a big part of my life. I used to be much more active in the music scene and went to several major music festivals over the last decade, but we prefer more intimate shows now. I like live-music of all sorts! Basically, anything that makes me dance or calms me down is my jam. Right now my Spotify is blowin' up with Lizzo!!

I'm terrible with movies. But TV series? Yes, please! Big Little Lies, GOT, The Office, Parks & Rec, and many more shows that are probably rotting my brain.

I'm not a huge reader, but when I am, I'm a non-fiction kind of gal. Currently reading James Clear's Atomic Habits.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking the John Muir Trail has been the single best experience of my life. I've have some pretty amazing experiences in my life that may seem more epic than the JMT on surface-level, but 210 miles backpacking in the Sierra Nevada completely changed my life. I find myself dreaming about doing it again one day. If you ever have the chance to tackle the JMT, you MUST do it.

Teach, Learn, Share

If there's one thing I've learned being a nurse, it's that life is short. Do what you love to do NOW. Tell the people closest to you that you love them TODAY! And also, a little kindness to yourself and others goes a long way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories, experiences, and friendship! I can also keep a space clean and orderly, and if you'd like some pet sitting, I can help with that too while visiting. Sharing is caring, so if there's something you're looking for in particular, just ask!
