About Me

San Francisco Bay Area redwoods enchanted me many years ago and I just had to move from Brooklyn, NYC! I'm retired from a very rewarding career as an Occupational Therapist where I worked in public schools with special ed. children to help them get the most from their education. I enjoy posture/movement classes which help me breathe deeply and stand straight while I walk around my local forest and creek. I am seeking an intentional community or cohousing as my next place to live. I eat organic veggies and good-quality meats and seafood. Before the lockdowns, I volunteered in the Music department at my meditation center. I enjoy various cultures, their foods and spiritual traditions. I care about the environment and advocate for protecting our food, air and water. My philosophy and experience is that divine grace is in the details of everyday life. I don’t smoke, drink or leave rings on your table.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel in hotels or being alone doesn't seem a balanced way anymore for me to get to know a new place. With Couchsurfing I've met great, interesting, generous, active people and kept in touch many years with some. It's a great experience to give and receive a warm welcome!

Interests

Working in small groups and communities to create something larger than our individual efforts could accomplish. Nature, outdoors, travel, yoga, meditation, health, fine arts, knitting, healthy organic food.

Music, Movies, and Books

In the past I watched lots of movies-- classics, fiction, documentaries, Catherine Hepburn, Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Robert Redford, Robin Williams. Some old titles I liked at the time were Karate Kid, What the Bleep, Indigo Children, White Nights, Inconvenient Truth. Music I like now includes classical, jazz, Krishna Das, Philip Glas, light rock, Brazilian guitar and Gregorian chants. I enjoy hearing Italian tenors like Andrea Bocelli deliver their well-trained pitch and timing. It's exciting to recognize phrases in Italian in the lyrics or find a translation to a beautiful part of a song.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I danced on a lit dance stage by myself for 30 minutes because I wanted to dance. I had a great time of it, partnerless and flying freely in expressive and disco movements. When I finished, a roomful of people burst into applause, coming from nowhere I could see! The darkened dining room had been full of onlookers the whole time!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am reading about environmental sustainability, organic farming, wind and solar power, nutrition, functional medicine, healthcare, electrical emissions, how big money affects health and agriculture, and how to maintain my own car.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Twenty years experience as an officer on two housing Coop Boards, and being a retired pediatric therapist makes for an upbeat, surprising and fun perspective for making things work and people feel welcome.
