Обо мне

CURRENT MISSION

Spend Every Single Day - Out - & Doing something WorthWhile. Experiencing the world and learning it. I'm not really your 'traditional' party person, but I still somehow manage to stay out and active every day.

ABOUT ME

Geez. I think the fairest and most honest thing I can say at this moment is that I go through phases (not in a day to day sense thank grief). At the moment, I'm extremely outgoing and invested in spending every moment I can soaking up sun or at least getting out doors. Even though I'm an extrovert, my favorite ways to spend time revolve around simple, almost introverted activities. I camp coffee shops, quiet little music venues, read books on the trolley just to watch the city fly by, attend museums and parks, I constantly head outdoors with no destination in mind just to see where I find myself at the end of a day. I’m great for knowing a good bar with a lot of fun events; I’ve next to no knowledge of clubs or anything of that sort. I’m very into the arts and often have a window into what’s going on there at any given time – especially performance arts. I absolutely love the feeling of experiencing a city on my bike; I’m also in love with good conversation.

Every coffee date I've had has turned into an amazing time, a new CS friend, and usually an excursion. So, I'm quite up for them from anyone visiting.

Before I overwhelm this space I’ll just finish by saying that I’m easy going and comfortable, capable of providing a person with as much space as they could want, or giving them the hands on full blown day to day guided tour. (Due to a rather wild schedule at the moment, it helps me to know in advance how independent of a surfer you might be). I’m a good cook, though extremely new to it, and therefore love to cook for others, but am sad that my knowledge base is so small it limits me to presenting rather plain fair.

I’d kill to host someone that was interested in sharing cooking knowledge. Food is one of those things and experiences in/of life I never mind spending money or time on. I'd also like to learn how to sew, or, you know, pretty much anything really.

PHILOSOPHY

I think I'm in the process of figuring this out. For the most part I do not like, for myself, inactivity. This doesn't mean that I don't mind being lazy or still, just that whatever I am doing, I like to be present in it. I also like to be open to any possibilities which open out of/from whatever I am up to.

In part, thanks to couchsurfing I've come to learn that People are important to me and, especially, vivid interactions with people.

Now I'm sort of trying to figure out how to find that fact a good fit in the life I'm trying to live and build.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting. Events. Some more of that Hosting Stuff. Making friends, memories and providing and sharing in good times.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Now that I've been here a bit I can say that Bringing the World to my door (via CS) has been amazing. This summer I'll be taking my first CS trip starting in S.F. in June and with no real plan other than to wind up in North Carolina sometime in July.

Wonder who I'll run into along the way!

Музыка, кино и книги

Just finished reading: His Dark Materials Trilogy (Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, Amber Spyglass). Currently reading: "Ask the Dust" by John Fante. Next in queue: "Wilco: Learning How to Die" by Greg Kot.
Generally, I read a lot of poetry, but that list is too long to go into here.

Music I listen to in moods, that usually define periods. In simpler terms, I keep a large collection of music available but generally find myself within a certain week or month favoring one genre over another.

I enjoy a lot of music from the first half of the century and have a large collection of music that hails from about 1900 – 1960. Blues is the largest part of that, but I really like folk, enjoy some classical, and adore Edith Piaf.

I’m pretty into what I suppose is considered “ Indie. ” I spent a lot of time growing up in the south and am intimately acquainted with Classic Rock, so while I do not own that much of it I find myself constantly singing along to it.

Today’s Recently played music says that I’ve listened to: Feist, Edith Piaf, Dean Martin, Miles Davis, Alison Krauss, Sting, Johnny Cash, Puffy Amiyumi, Modest Mouse, Squarepusher, Sparkle Horse, Souad Massi, Some by Sea, Iron & Wine, Tapes N’ Tapes, Jurassic 5, The Roots, J Dilla, Tokyo Police Club, Beirut, and more.

Movies: A few all time favorite movies of mine: “Blue Gate Crossing” (Taiwanese film), “Yes” by Sally Potter, “The Professional” by Luc Besson, “Network” by Sidney Lumet. I’m currently in love with anything by Sidney Lumet. In the theater this year (or I suppose recently) I’ve loved “No Country for Old Men,” and “There will be Blood.” I also watched “The Spiderwick Chronicles” on a whim and found it to be a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to “Horton Hears a Who!”

Классная вещь, которую я сделал(-а)

It's a small thing, but I can still recall the feel of and smell of the wind from all the rooftops I've been on, in all the states and different countries I've been on them in, and the people that have been there with me.

Cooking. Sharing and Learning. I'd love to learn more. I really enjoy cooking for others. My knowledge base is so informal that I could likely only teach what I know to someone that sorely lacked in skills.

I'm sure the other thing is something anyone could do, but I love music. I'd love to share my own and learn what other people have discovered.

I love learning and listening to stories. I'm really into local histories of regions, and thereby also personal histories. It feels a bit like mapping the soul of a place.

I'm pretty well acquainted with the San Diego "events" scene and can usually be counted on to come up with a few worthwhile options for a couchsurfer wondering what to do on any given night of the week.

I wish I had more practical skills to share.. If I think of any I'll be sure to come back here and add them.
