About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Life, Love, Larf, Loaf!

ABOUT ME

I am a father, a video producer and a property manager in southern Vermont. Before becoming a dad I traveled as much as I could whenever possible. I continue to get away once or twice a year on average. I generally try to stay with people residing in those places and want to get a real sense of a place. I have been to the UK, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Spain, Ireland, Japan, Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, France, Switzerland, Egypt, Belgium, Slovakia, Canada, Mexico etc.

I worked as a teacher for more than 10 years. I did some international theater and now do video work in Vermont where I live with my gal Kathy and our two children (ages 2 & 5). So, you've got to like or at least tolerate young children when requesting a couch from us.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been sporadically hosting when I am able to and I have primarily used this site as a host. I had the opportunity to be a guest at a former guest's house in 2012 which was nice to experience the other side of the coin. I will hope to go to Canada and parts of Europe, Asia and beyond in coming years.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before there was a Couchsurfing network I stayed with host families, in hostels, on friends floors, bed and breakfasts and 1 star hotels. I have experienced the good, the bad and the uncomfortable. Sometimes I would happen upon lovely people who hosted me and made a visit so wonderful and memorable.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC! Yes! I co-host a radio program (also heard on the net at wvew.org )and play a fairly wide array of music. Fairport Convention, The Jayhawks, The Shins, Beth Orton, Sam Phillips, Nina Simone, Chet Baker, Django Reinhardt, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Lindisfarne, Strauss, The Bevis Frond, etc. etc.
Films also. Too many to name. Wim Wenders. Wes Anderson, and a thousand others.
I have hosted various radio programs over the years playing all kinds of things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Iceburgs over the Atlantic Ocean as the sun is rising. Islands on the Swedish coast, the midnight sun in St. Petersburg. Returning to a field in Oxfordshire to hear all kinds of live music. The pyramids in Egypt. Sailing on the Danube. Riding the Trans-Siberian railway.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am interested in a world with less focus on borders, but rather in building and fostering and strengthening community, partnership, cooperation, sustainability, sharing of knowledge and of hope and purpose. I have traveled myself and I like to spend time with people who have seen some of the world and love what it has to offer and have a sense of the potential of humanity and communication and spending time talking and thinking and laughing and dreaming.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have hosted many more people than I have been a guest. I have seen both sides of the equation. Respect and a sense of humor are the most important aspects of a successful scenario. So far they have all been quite positive. I was previously verified but it looks like Couchsurfing charges a $60 fee to be "verified". I am glad to provide specific info that identifies me should a prospective surfer or host want that.
