About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Do NOT Keep calm. Still carry on.

ABOUT ME

Currently staying in Kathmandu/Nepal for 2.5 months. Let me know if you're around and wanna hang out!

I lived in Quito/Ecuador, doing an exchange semester at the FLACSO (Oct.16 - April 17)

// not up do date blog: www.joannanogly.de

I am a very curious, open-minded and tolerant person. Surprise surprise I love travelling! I love meeting new people. Furthermore I try to do my bit for a better world - engaging in sustainable projects, being vegan and so on. Since 2012 I work in an urban garden, learn about growing plants, herbs etc., cause to be honest I dream about living self-sufficient in a tiny cub-house at some point... Music is the beat of life and without it life would be a mistake (nietzsche). I can also be a little bit impatient, I am not a morning person either and it's kinda difficult for me to say a single sentence that makes sense before my first coffee...

PHILOSOPHY

"Give more than you take. Let people know that they are important to you. Learn lots the hard way. Play frequently. Tell others you love, miss and appreciate them. Don't take stuff so damn seriously! Have dance parties DAILY! Sing loud and badly. Smile often! :) "
Sorry Brandon for steeling your words. But they are just SO TRUE. :-)

Elsewise since studying philsophy for more than three years by now I have a slightly jinxed relationship with it. Still I love it, I guess.

I want to make a differance by living life as I think is good. I want to live how I want this world to be. But: Live and let live. I'm not trying to convert people to anything or to be an upholder of moral standards. But I love to discuss them with using sound arguments ;) furthermore I try to help people out whenever possible and I would do everything for my friends and my family.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am trying to make this world a more friendly, open, sustainable place. I support friendship and hospitality, so all those different people, cultures, religions can grow more together. Built tolerance !

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

...my CS experience in the last years simply blew my mind. It is incredible how many awesome and interesting individuals I met. People who helped me out, people who shared their thoughts, ideas and laughs with me, people who offered me a place to stay, live and grow. CS is definitly one of the greatest things that the 21st century brought up. I lived with 8 other CSers in Vancouver and that made me consider it a lifestyle. I am so much looking forward to be able to host again.

Interests

I love philosophical talks with friends that end up in abstruse ideas while drinking lots of wine or a good Joint. sometimes I can be a bit risky and do silly things, that might end in a lot of fun or I hurt someone (i.e. myself, but not only) accidently...I am interested in ethics in general...In my opinion language, words, are something beautiful thus I enjoy both reading and writing. In order to stay as sane as possible I need to keep on moving - mental as well as physical, so I try to save some time to do sports (cycling, Yoga! It brings me to myself, makes me calm and peaceful. enjoy hiking, climbing, etc. generally activities in the nature). I like art in general, sometimes striving to create some by my own, or "only" consuming the art of others (above all Photographs)... I think I don't exaggerate when I say I couldn't imagine to live without music. It's amazing to share music and I'm always opened towards new stuff. The genre doesn't matter at all, as long as the music is honest. I love animals, especially cats and horses. And those days I do spend a lot of time in my garden, learning about how to grow my own veggies.
Last but not least my body represents another interest of mine - tattoo's and piercings. I tend to Keep it simple to some extent but I love seeing colorful and extravagant bodies.

PS: I Change my haircut very often. So don't be surprised if I do not exactly look like on any of the pics...

Music, Movies, and Books

I am quite open-minded. I like art (actually movies, music, book ARE art.) which is extraordinary, innovative. If it's about music the list was neverending. But just to give some examples: I like Ghinzu, Tool, NIN, I like Alanis Morissette, Guano Apes, Pearl Jam, SkaP, System of a Down, godspeedyou, Seigmen, Portishead, Massive Attack, Flaw, The Beatles, The Doors, Sublime, Clueso, Fink, Cake, Dub Step (Skream), Paul Kalkbrenner, Fanta 4, Gustav, Marilyn Manson, 65daysofstatic, Miles Davis, Die Antwoord, Darkside, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Scout Niblett,...etc.etc.

Probably the same about books. I like Virginia Woolf (!), Marukami, Paulo Coelho, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Ken Follett, Kafka, Poe, Bulgakow, Goethe...

Philosophy: Aristotle + Plato, Nietzsche, MacIntyre, Sen, Nussbaum ++ Political Literature..: Piketty, Graeber, Klein.. well, mostly the big names I guess.

Movies (I prefer arthouse movies and movies who deal with a serious topic): Requiem for a Dream, Funny Games, Hard Candy, Gardenstate, Hundstage, Dancer in the dark, Sin City, Little miss sunshine...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Riding on horseback in Petra/Jordan, in the middle of the desert with some locals and waiting for the sunrise. Afterwards a race through the sand...
My little sister grining from ear to ear. Or when she calls me, having a problem and says: "...so I tought: now the only one who can help me is jo!" hihi...I love her so much.

Teach, Learn, Share

in generel I love to learn just by talking and doing: about your philosophy, your country, your culture, your interests and profession.
Teach: I speak German and Polish so I can help there. I can teach you some juggling, knitting, I am pracitcing Yoga for some years so I am pretty sure I could teach some Asanas etc., I can do an armstand and teach that and I know a bit about climbing/bouldering (though not so crazy much but I could introduce a total beginner)
Share: MUSIC!!!!
