About Me

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers...For thereby some have entertained angels unaware.

ABOUT ME

I am a single mom, and Misha is my adult daughter. She lives in Maine now.

I've been hosting since 2005 and love it. Now I have a new place, so come visit!

What can you expect if you visit us? I'm a short drive to Portland, ME, the coast of Maine, and some beautiful traisls. At home, a nice quiet place to lay your head. No curfew... just chill space. I cook good food often, or so I have heard from other guests.

I'm a vegetarian, mostly vegan. Food at home is mainly vegetarian. However, it's a short trip to all sorts of great restaurants in Augusta or Portland.

I am a homebrewer, and baker, and canner, and gardener, so depending on what time of year, or what time in the brewing cycle, there will be fresh veggies, bread or homebrew! I am a little bit hippie DIYer.

PHILOSOPHY

What is the meaning of life? I ask myself this often, and the best I have figured out is to keep learning, keep growing, keep loving and keep treating others with kindness and compassion. Never stop.

I just found this quote...

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers
For thereby some have entertained angels unaware."

Pretty fitting, and I have been made aware of such angels among us sometimes. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well... I've donated to the CS2 Project. And hosted a LOT. I've been hosting since 2005, when I heard a story on NPR. I was an ambassador... I think that's been discontinued. I wasn’t an active host for a few years because I lived in the middle of nowhere. That’s going to change, I hope!

I like couchsurfing a lot more than air bnb.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been a host a lot and it is great. I love opening my house and heart to strangers. I'm looking forward to traveling more, and being a guest more.

I have only been a guest a few times, but I am looking forward to changing that.

Now... I have been very bad about keeping a list of who I have hosted, but many of them are my friends, and you will find them there. It all started with Ricardo and his friend Saturno in July of 2005. I still need to visit them in Mexico!

Interests

Books, art, music, fun, weird silliness in general. I like SantaCon, I dream of eventually getting to Burning Man. I am not a big party person, though I will venture out on occasion, if the time is right. I want to go to Burning Man someday. Right now I go to regional events. I love, love, love Burning Man culture and the friendships I have made at regional events all over the East Coast. I am learning belly dancing, poi spinning, and hooping... trying to keep myself entertained throughout the year.

Lately I've been on a brewing kick and have made some decent batches of homebrew. Looking forward to many more of those!

An old, but beloved pastime of mine is letterboxing. For more information visit www.letterboxing.org. So...if you like 'boxing, I will be happy to swap tales of the trail, and/or clues. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I still think almost 7,000 Santas in New York City is the best, most amazing thing I have ever seen. I love SantaCon. It's the most wonderful time of the year! Either that or the sunrise over the Negev Desert in Israel.

Teach, Learn, Share

I make jam and pickles and will be happy to give lessons, fruit/veggie supply, weather, and time willing! You'll have a nice, tasty treat to bring home with you.

I also can teach you how to make bread, if you like and I have time. You're also welcome to help out with brewing beer, if the time is right. Or bottling! Or taste testing. :)

I can tell you where the great places to get vegan and vegetarian food in the area are.

Countries I’ve Visited
