About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy life, learn about culture from the everyday, and travel as much as I can

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Canada and the more I travel the more I realize I really am a Canadian, and I think that's a good thing :). I love my country and love telling people about it (as much as I can at least) so feel free to ask any questions. I'm a very curious person, and am into learning about other cultures and traditions by digging deep through good conversation with good company.

I love travelling and meeting new people. I've been to several countries, but I know I've just scratched the surface. In Canada I've been to British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, and hope to get to the prairies soon. Internationally I've been to the US, Scotland, England, Wales, Cuba, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Switzerland, France, and Norway. I'm more than happy to chat about any of my experiences and am always looking for suggestions of where to go next!

PHILOSOPHY

I think we run around living our lives at such a fast pace that sometimes we miss things. That's why I like to try to just slow down and appreciate the small things and little details that might normally go unnoticed.

I think it's important to take in as much as possible while we're here, and the best way to do it is to slow down and let it come to us.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really like the couchsurfing community, and participate through hosting, discussions and groups, and meet ups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My sister and I couchsurf'd around France for 3 weeks and loved every experience we had. Our hosts were genuine, kind souls who treated us like family :)

Interests

I'm obsessed with experiencing and participating in culture in all its different forms, from exploring historic architecture, to listening to storytelling or hiking deep into a forest.

I work in conservation, but I'm also into creating culture. I'm big on tiny details and exploring and am usually taking photographs along my way. I like to make things whether through wood, clay, textiles... etc. I'm an avid knitter and crocheter too and am definitely up for a craft date.

Music, Movies, and Books

I was lucky enough to take a film class with a great professor at the start of university so I appreciate some less modern films too like Citizen Kane, It Happened One Night, His Girl Friday..

I like French films, especially Catherine Breillat, and would never turn down seeing a documentary.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in Malaysia I visited the Batu Caves near Kuala Lumpur. I went a few days before Thaipusam, an annual Hindu festival that draws thousands of devotees to the area. There were all sorts of people of all ages doing all kinds of devotional acts in honour of their faith. I think the thing that got me most is that it wasn't even the actual day of the festival and yet there was an amazing number of people taking part, I can't imagine how packed the actual date must have been! It's not often that you get to be privy to that kind of mass positive devotion so I felt lucky to have been there and took some beautiful photographs.

Teach, Learn, Share

I really enjoy photography so I can share my knowledge of composition, exposure, lighting etc. and some general tips and advice if you want!

As I said before, I like crafting; I can teach you how to knit, crochet or sew if you like.

I work in cultural conservation and love to talk about cultural activities, organizations and opportunities. My current frame of reference is Ontario and Canada, and I'm always eager to expand my knowledge beyond.
