About Me

CURRENT MISSION

being more e-social

ABOUT ME

I'm not really an e-social person. I can't get addicted to social networks. They are great tools for communication. But one needs to write a lot. And I can't avoid thinking too much when writing. And I don't like writing about myself and others so that third parties may know about us. I enjoy anonymity and reading more than writing. Now, analyze me, you psychologists!

I also tend to feel and keep close to only a few people, and get very involved in our projects. These people must be close in space too (with some exceptions). I try to make the best out of the time I spend with anybody when we are together.

I like so much getting involved with people from other cultures, share visions, opinions and beliefs, and challenge my own all the time.

PHILOSOPHY

I totally coincide with that of the Monty Python. May I not forget this again!

If, as someone wrote in Wikipedia, Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems rationally, I must here write about fundamental problems and how I would address them sober.

I will skip talking about the problems, but I believe the solution is this (does it looks simple to you?):

Have good will, be patient, rational and diplomatic, and help others, in order to actively and passively promote good feelings and prevent tragedy.

And in order to progress towards that solution, I believe in little changes (read about Captain Lettuce below).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I check the site looking for interesting people and things to do sometimes. If someone finds me interesting too, and I'm given the chance to help somehow, then I can say I've participated. If you write me, I'll respond you. If we happen to meet, we can talk.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's been some time already since I joined the community. I've met great people thanks to the site. But I've not been accounting it much. As I'm becoming less e-antisocial, I should be changing that and leave more references.

Interests

My current interests are finding my way into China, and understanding what I'm being told or written in Mandarin.

I also like very much practicing sport, like going running, swimming or hiking. Drawing is another one of my hobbies, and I think I'm pretty good at it. And many other things, of course. And I'm always open to explore new ones.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like musicals, and one of my favorites is the Vampire's musical, which I had the privilege of watching from the stall in the Ronacher theater, in Wien, not long ago, and I've been listening to it and singing it since. Check this out: http://mljs.evilnickname.org/jimsteinman/tanzdervampire/libretto.html I discovered music in a truly spectacular way listening to "Queen". I like music videos. Have you seen these: "I feel better" by Hot Chip, "Invisible Light" by Scissor Sisters, "Pass this on" by the Knife, and "Something Good 2008" by Utah Saints. That song by Patrick Hernández is cool.

Two curious movies that one may watch in Catalan or Spanish: "Krámpak", and "Morir (o no)", both from year 2000. The documentary "Home" by a guy called Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

I don't usually read books (novels) any more. I used to a lot though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There used to be a short TV program called "Capità Enciam" ("Captain Lettuce"), and in this program Captain Lettuce used to say "Els petits canvis són poderosos" ("Little changes are powerful"). Little changes! That's it! As Captain Lettuce says, they have the power to add up and generate truly amazing things. With this perspective, I see amazing things all the time, of course. And I contribute to them as long as I remember and apply the Captain's words.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to recommend the best language course ever in the world: Michel Thomas audio-courses. Check Wikipedia, Audible* and Google in general.

(*I once bought something from Audible, but they delivered it in a weird audio format. I'll tell you how to convert it to mp3 or ogg.)
