ABOUT ME

5'10", 185 lbs., long grey-black hair tied back, brown eyes, never married, 61 October '13. Something of a "refugee from the arts," -- early formative years spent in theatre, film, writing, among other forms, an independent thinker, transitioned some 5 years ago into web/graphic design, and recently again into instructional design. Inter alia, writing first novel.

Very much a person of contrasts. An 'action egghead' with soul. Knowledge, skills and activities to suit. Insightful, experienced, sensual, funny, iconoclastic. Sometimes feel like an "unknown celebrity," though quite satisfied with life in "le petite monde."

Third generation American, Italian/Portuguese descent. European in outlook, not very American. Speak passing German, a little French, wordsmith English.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

met a few amazing people with only a brief stop at the CS Union Sq. picnic, Steve W in particular, which was first contact.

This could be a long story if I let it. Have stayed with friends abroad, notably Zürich and Berlin, also with strangers met there, long before joining CS. Have had some dinner parties (and more ;-) with same vising here. Been a long time since though.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"I caught a whale."

I was on the Breezy Point Jetty outside NYC, sticks out into ocean a few hundred feet, peopled mostly by fishermen. One mild day in October I was one of them. Whales appeared offshore, a long ways off, but close enough to see their spouting. One came nearer than the others, but still far off the end of the stone Jetty. Then it went under.

I was talking with another fishermen, each of us casting off the side of the Jetty near the end. We had already forgotten about the whales, which had gone under, when one surfaces not 20 yards from the Jetty where we stood, impossibly close, and already turned around and heading back to sea.

The sound that broke our jaw dropped amazement was the sound of the guy next to me's fishing reel squealing as the line sped out against the drag. The hook was stuck on the whale's back. "I caught a whale!" he kept shouting, "I caught a whale!" Then he cut the line.

Teach, Learn, Share

This is a great idea.

but, don't ask me to tell you what's hot and what's not, have not been out in the bar/club scene for ages.
