ABOUT ME

I frequently have these moments when I see a bus, or computer, or something, and just go, "Sweet merciful God, we used to live in freakin' caves ."

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that we largely construct our realities through the stories we tell ourselves, with facts used as evidence for our preexisting beliefs. The corollary is that this makes being a good storyteller the most powerful thing you can possibly be.

Also, I feel like we have about five years until the zombies come, and should probably act accordingly.

I sleep on people's couches. Sometimes, people sleep on my couch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I got introduced to CS a few years ago by the now-defunct Revival meetup in New York, and since then I've surfed all over the US, Europe, and Latin America, during which travels I may or may not have gotten stoned at the Couchsurfing headquarters with Casey Fenton, Couchsurfing founder and all-around strange human being.

Interests

Yoga. Good writing. Messing around on stringed instruments. Swimming in natural bodies of water. Listening to live music. Making poor decisions while on questionable substances and/or abroad. Climbing on top of things that were not intended to be climbed. Badly-planned, long-distance trips on little or no money. Biking everywhere.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like music that takes traditional folk structures and feeds them through a blender. This means I get super excited over stuff ranging from Bruce Springsteen's “Seeger Sessions” to Manu Chao's “Clandestino” to Jason Webley to things like Balkan Beat Box and Infected Mushroom.

A random sampling of books I've read in the last couple of years that have made an impression on me: “Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay,” by Michael Chabon; “Poems of Jerusalem” by Yehuda Amichai; “The Blind Assassin” by Margaret Atwood; Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" and "All the Pretty Horses,"; Alan Watts' writing on Zen; Orwell's “Homage to Catalonia.” My favorite travel book used to be “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and even though I've since realized it's total chest-thumping masturbatory propaganda, I still have a soft spot for it.

Moving pictures frighten and confuse me.
