About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be the coolest guy on the block

ABOUT ME

Recently moved to New York where I'm taking a journalism masters degree at Columbia University. I like hiking, going to museums, parks and beer.

I have been a journalist for the past three years. It is a great excuse to travel and get paid and an interesting way to see the reality of people in all sorts of places. I love radio, writing and producing documentaries.

Previously lived and worked in Bogota, Colombia let me know if you have any questions about traveling in that area.

PHILOSOPHY

I´ve also shared many good moments with the cs friends around colombia, like the salsa fair in cali, the festival of lights in villa de leyva, and the blacks and whites carnival in pasto.

Interests

hiking, trekking, football (aunque la liga de colombia es muy malita) music, movies also documentaries and photography. Travelling ...folkloric stuff from different places and people who live in so called "traditional" lifestyles...but even more than that, dancing to good salsa and reading good books.

Music, Movies, and Books

amores perros
la verite si je mens (part un et deux),
city of god..(there´s also a tv series called city of men by the same guys, very good),
the last king of scotland, that type of historical movie.

music:
SALSA is my number 1..especially salsa a la hector lavoe.. "yo soy el cante..tararara", but I also like
rock in spanish, (LOS PRISIONEROS si!) or british bands too, pero por lo que mas quieran NADA de regetton...I usually like music with a message, a romantic feeling and a broken rhytm..un ritmo "sincopado" como la bossa nova tambien! music with identity!

and books..many authors, william ospina, jorge franco, some garcia marquez, i like historical novels, or those that talks about social and cultural "realities" and I enjoy creative non-fiction (the type of books written by journalists like RICHARD KAPUCINSKI, great guy)

currently reading: The Barack Obama boook "dreams of my father"..

and I also like stuff with a sense of humor. my absolute number 1 book of all times is certainly...

"FOOTBALL: THE BRAZILIAN WAY OF LIFE" by
Alex Bellos

just remembering this book, brings a smile to my face.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

filming in the middle of the barranquilla carnival, hiking mountains in Bolivia...or..being on the seventh floor of a building during a 5.5 earthquake in Bogota. hanging around Colombia´s war zones is also interesting but a bit too much stress...I have enjoyed hanging out with indigenous communities in Colombia though, cause I love their perception of things..por ejemplo ahora estan "caminando la palabra"..osea, no marchando ni protestanto sino "caminando la palabra", muy poetica y prfunda la vaina, pero temo que Uribe les "gano" en el ultimo debate, porque estaba mas preparado.
