ABOUT ME

"When you want to know the truth about someone that someone is probably the last person you should ask."

So it's up to you to find out about who and what I am!

Only a few points about me:

- For many years, I used to live in a community together with up to 10 people of different origin, different ages and with very different education. It hasn't been always easy to get along with that many people in a common household, but I learned a lot about cultures, mutual tolerance and all this social stuff. This time has shaped me very much.
- In my former life I have been a punkrock girl, but nowadays I don't need to show my being-different to everybody any more (although I kept up much of the nonconformist attitude)
- Since I work full-time as a software developer and live in a normal flat, my life has become quite ordinary, almost boring. I try to compensate this by developing my social networks.
- I haven't got a car, it's not necessary: it's possible to manage your life without, even in a small town like Paderborn. This saves money and protects environment and health.
- I don't like sports, except Wheelchair Rugby (a very funny game, you should give it a try!) However, I use my bicycle as everyday means of transportation, that's exercise enough.
- you are still not tired of reading??? I could write many more... but maybe you want to tell me a bit about yourself before :-)

PHILOSOPHY

I want to repair more than I destroy. This applies to every field.

There's always a story behind the scenes. Finding it out before judging leads to surprising perspectives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Though I am relatively new to CouchSurfing, I have gained many experiences with hospitality in former years. During several hitchhiking tours in Europe I always found people very very helpful, I almost never had to use my tent because people invited me to their homes. On the other hand, as a matter of course my house has always been open for guests. Over the years, there have been many friends, travellers and bands sleeping in our community house.

My best holidays were those spontaneous ones with low budget, where I had to rely on the help of others. Now with CS, I try to regain this traveling attitude - not to trust in money but in luck, which means meeting the right people. I hope this will make me better understand the cultural differences of the countries I travel. I am curious to see if it really works!

Interests

traveling (if I only had more time for this!) / hiking & backpacking & camping = "trekking light" / geocaching, best by bicycle / meeting friends for personal talks or just for fun / studying several subjects (topics of interest change now and then, recently I started with BSc Psychology studies at a distant learning university) / motorcycling

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
I'm not that much into movies - I enjoy watching them, but always forget the storyline after a few days. I rather read a good book.

Music:
Oh, in almost every genre there are some songs that I like - PunkRock, Ska and R'n'B, Funk and World Music, House and Northern Soul, Metal and (not too schmaltzy) love songs, and many many more
Current Favourites: Guts Pie Earshot (the old songs before Anneke left), Nørn, Mutabor, Keith Jarrett (The Köln Concert)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Non-verbal Communication at its best. Sounds weird, but this is a true story:

Some years ago, amidst a wild house-community party, I looked out of the window and saw a young man pass by. He didn't look at me, just went along looking "normally" straightforward. Nevertheless, I had an incredibly strong feeling that I really really needed to talk to him. I dropped my beer, ran out of the house and stopped the guy. When I started conversation, he began to cry - he had been on the way to the rail tracks to commit suicide.

Afterwards, this guy lived in our house for about a month and then moved to Hamburg, I lost track of him.
