About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make the most of my trip to Japan this summer

ABOUT ME

Canadian (and so relieved we finally got rid of Dictator Harper). I lived in Japan for 4 years. I've done 3 Habitat for Humanity Global Village Builds (Sri Lanka and the Philippines twice). In 2011 I volunteered in NorthEast Japan to help with tsunami recovery. In 2012 I volunteered in Kyuushuu Japan flood recovery after volunteering in the Philippines (typhoon recovery). In 2013 I went to help with cleanup after the Alberta floods. I'm very concerned about environmental degradation/global warming.

I've been to the U.S., Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Cook Islands, Germany, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

PHILOSOPHY

You can't negotiate with nature. Fun is where you find it. Usually subtlety will get you nowhere.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm looking to share international experience, and cycling info, perhaps polish my rusty Japanese.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Three hosts so far in Hokkaidou and one in Gunma. All good experiences.

An early experience unofficially CSing was in Australia where I wandered into the Queensland Rowing Championships and hopped into a couple races. That resulted in two wonderful home stays.

Interests

Environmentalism, gymnastics, rowing, Japan, cycling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lord of the Rings, Linkin Park, Watership Down, Dido, Star Wars, 吉田兄弟, 安室奈美恵.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and Mt Fuji in Japan. Seen Northern Lights. Set a couple world records.

Teach, Learn, Share

Reading Japanese maps. I can cook semi-decently but don't expect me to follow a recipe unless it's chemically necessary.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My love of bike-touring/commuting.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, China, Cook Islands, Germany, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, United States
