About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to make a diference

ABOUT ME

We are a married couple from Atlanta, GA now living in Barcelona, Spain. We think it was a huge upgrade! We came to Spain to teach at the American School here. We are laid back and enjoy meeting new people and visiting new places. We live life passionately and like to laugh and eat.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is a grand adventure. Live it up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have done more hosting than anything else, and have gone to a few CS group meetings. I have to say, though, that we are looking forward to meeting more people in other cities. There is so much more to learn about someone when they are seen in their own environment.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have surfed through the Italian Alps and Milano and it was wonderful. We enjoy hosting and sharing stories with travelers passing through Barcelona. We have had nothing but positive experiences with CS!

Music, Movies, and Books

Depends on who is typing at the moment. For Courtney, who currently has the computer...

Movies: Breakfast at Tiffany's, Amelie, Tombstone, Lost in Translation, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Planet Earth
Music: Indigo Girls, Ben Folds, John Mayer, Outkast, Jack Johnson, REM
Books: Shadow of the Wind, Water for Elephants, To Kill a Mockingbird, Wicked, the Twilight series (at least right now)

. . . and for Jonathan,

Movies: two broad categories - movies full of oddly intelligent characters that make you stretch your brain a little bit, and nearly every visual feast that Tim Burton has ever created.

Music: more oddly intelligent people (otherwise known as nerds) like Cake, Beck, Weezer, Soul Coughing, Weird Al, They Might be Giants, the Beastie Boys, and Ben Folds. I have a whole theory on why I like hip-hop (which is too long to state here - ask me about it when we meet, if you want to know) artists like Kanye West, Outkast, De La Soul, Q-Tip, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Books: Having university degrees in English Literature and Childhood Education, I find myself drawn to William Faulkner and Barbara Kingsolver, as well as to Dr. Seuss and Mo Willems.

Teach, Learn, Share

Courtney is really good at helping people discover books they might like to read. She also has a great sense of direction, so she can teach you how to get around in Barcelona when you come visit us. You should also talk to her if you have deep issues related to philosophy or religion, as she has degrees in both of those subjects.

Jonathan can teach you a few bad jokes in English. I don't mean bad like in dirty, but bad as in the kind of joke that makes you groan instead of laugh. He does not have a good sense of direction, so he will be happy to wander the streets with you in search of places in Barcelona that might be new to everyone involved!

We both want very badly to learn how to speak Spanish comfortably, but we aren't in the best place to do it. We speak English all day as part of our job, and we have a hard time figuring out if the people around us are speaking Spanish or Catalan, so that doesn't always help. Tips about conversational Spanish are more than welcome. Learning how to travel light across Europe would also be good to know, as well as teaching us about the best food in your part of the world. "Mmmmm," translates into many different languages.
