ABOUT ME

Scottish, but getting to the point where I'll have lived more of my life in Japan than the UK. Easy-going, tolerant, talkative, passionate depending on the topic and mood, like making people laugh, like to go with the flow. More of a morning person than a night bird - in fact, usually in bed by ten these days... Manners are important, I think. BUT... must be around people who have a good sense of humour, and 'get' Glasgow humour. No precious wee souls, please.

Educated in Glasgow and Reading (and currently Bournemouth), lived in Manchester, then Matsuyama, Okayama and Tokyo, before Yokohama, where I am pretty much settled. Teaching English and film-making take up work time, leisure is football, books, walks, drinks with friends. Travel mostly for work, both EFL and film. My website is a video blog for English-language learners, a current work project.

PHILOSOPHY

There is a Japanese saying, 'Ichi Go Ichi E'. It means something like each encounter you have may be fleeting, so cherish it. I like that. Also currently reading the book 'Happiness' and find myself agreeing with much of it.

兴趣

Always watching film, sometimes three at one time. Avid reader (fiction and non-fiction, currently reading Buruma's The China Lover, and The Films of Peter Weir), playing football (left-back these days, we were relegated from Div 2 to 3 last season :(, watching football, writing fiction, meeting new people.

1. Volunteer work in Kobe in 1995 after the earthquake.
2. Best man at my own father's wedding.
3. Pulled a potential suicide off train tracks.
4. Carried a dead body through a house.
5. Made a short film in New York.
6. An Italian police officer drew his gun on me.

One of the above is a lie.
