About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get through each day remembering to recycle.

ABOUT ME

On the downhill side of life so am just going for it! Finally have all the smarts/gumption/devil-may-care attitude that would have served me well in my 20's. C'est la vie.

PHILOSOPHY

It's not what you're doing, it's who you're doing it with. Learn something new everyday.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Into year 15! Always happy to host and love being a guest! July 2011 - just back from a month in Europe where I stayed with the most amazing couchsurfers who were all so generous and kind. My mom and husband were both amazed but I knew it would be like that ;)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In the last 15 years we've had so much fun, laughs, made new friends, tried new things and in general gotten out of our comfort zone. I preach the joy of couchsurfing to all I meet!

Interests

Mysteries with strong heroines giving everyone lip, James Bond, Alan Rickman, Girl Scouts, travel (duh).

The last 9 years have found us riding in the Krewe of King Arthur during the Mardi Gras season in New Orleans. Can't describe how crazy/fun it is. Forget everything that you think you know about Mardi Gras - it is a season not just a day and encompasses everyone and everything. Some of our favorite parades (there are 3+ weeks of them) are the Krewe of Chewbacchus (sci-fi), Krewe de Vieux (irreverent, timely, and very adult) , Krewe of Iris, Krewe of Cork (walking parade in the Vieux Carre), and so many more. Missed 2021 due to COVID BUT we participated in the Krewe of House Floats expat division by decorating the outside of our home - not the real thing but gave us a bit of the Mardi Gras spirit. Update - yeah 2022!!! Had a blast and New Orleans was on its' toes about masking and COVID safety!! 2023 was back to crazy normal! 💜💚💛

Music, Movies, and Books

Avengers (TV not the movie), Strictly Ballroom, On Going to Bed by Anthony Burgess, Sherlock, Sunday night on PBS, Book Club (saw it 7 times in movie theaters)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Exploring the cemeteries of Colma, CA as the fog rolled down the pathways, rushing after us as it enveloped the gravestones and statuary - eerie, beautiful, scary.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmmm - 65 years worth of mistakes, triumphs, practical knowledge...

What I Can Share with Hosts

Same as above - this is throwing me for a loop! Always happy to bring strange local delicacies from Cincinnati including killer local brews. I can talk your ear off - not sure this is always a good thing.
