About Me

ABOUT ME

Sometimes I travel alone, sometimes with my wife or a friend, usually a colleague who is also a professor.
We enjoy hosting. We also Couchsurf when we go to scholar conferences or (mostly historic or "nerd") tourism. (I enjoy visiting universities, libraries, musicians, writers, philosophers).

PHILOSOPHY

I love reading and writing. I would be happy having philosophy as a way of life. I recently got my PhD in sociology, so I think I am getting closer to this goal.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the experience of sharing culture and getting advice from locals, just like I do when I host. Besides, honestly, depending on where I go, as I full time scholar, I cannot bear expensive tourism.

Interests

As for studies:
- Sociology (Durkheim, Weber, Marx, Bourdieu, etc.),
- Philosophy (Nietzsche, etc.),
- Psychoanalysis (Freud and Lacan),
- Law (comparative legal cultures)

Besides,
- Music (jazz, R&B, rock) - I can play the drums.
- Good beer,
- Knowing different cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

Usually, jazz standards are my favorite, when I am alone.
For happy hours with friends, Beatles are great.
For partying, Bruno Mars and K. Perry.
Michael Jackson for karaoke.
I can play the drums (but I have not been practicing for a while).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting Machu Picchu was awesome. The culture of the Incas is really amazing, a really must see!

Living in the 18th arrondissement, in Paris, a very ethnic place, was a very peculiar way of experiencing Paris.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach social theory, a bit o French, discuss philosophy, as culture and politics. I like trying local beers. My wife is learning the taste of different wines of the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Languages (Portuguese, English, French, Spanish), Philosophy (I have read de classics), and social and political issues. Also Law. I like to explore the town, see historic (rather then touristic)
Sites, try pubs and parks. Nothing better than a good conversation, it does not matter if you are not a scholar or an intelectual. We are funny and easygoing.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay

Countries I’ve Lived In

Brazil, France, United States
