About Me

CURRENT MISSION

A Origem Capilar & Cabana Paradise Hostel

ABOUT ME

My name is Leonardo Soares.
I'm a photographer, hair stylist and tourist guide (I worked for 5 years in Paris as a tourist guide). I also love to cook!
I undertake many interesting projects that I love to share with people.

I would like to thank those who have welcomed me into their homes and participated in my project "The origin of hair". This project is ongoing and you can check it out in the below link through tumbler.

Right now, I am setting up a hostel in my log cabin and I am so keen to get feedback from fellow travellers who stay here! I would like to invite you to stay in my log cabin which is nestled in the mountains of Teresopolis in Rio de Janeiro (60Kms from the centre of Rio de Janeiro).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a beautiful cabin nestled in the mountains behind Rio de Janeiro. A place to relax, explore the amazing nature, climb, walk or just chill in the cabin surrounds!

It is close to the most beautiful trails, mountains and waterfalls of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park.

Within a 5 minutes walk you can swim in beautiful mountain rivers, chill on big river rocks and enjoy the surrounding mountains!

There are many outdoor adventure activities close by: canoeing, mountainbiking, climbing and hiking trails with amazing waterfalls.

The location of my house if 60kms from the center of Rio de Janeiro, in a very small village called ‘Barrier’.

Best of all, it's easy to get here! There are 3 options for getting to Cabana Paradise Cabin by public transport from Rio de Janeiro:

Option 1
One bus from right in the centre of Rio that costs about 27 Reais. Here are the directions:

-The bus station is called Castelo (in Terminal Rodoviário Garagem Menezes Cortes (TGMC) - Street name Rua São José, 35 / Ave Erasmo Braga, Rio de Janeiro and is just off the main Avenue Presidente Antonio Carlos,). It is very close to the metro station Carioca. Buses from the south of the city (Copocabana, Ipanema etc) stop right outside the Terminal Rodoviário Garagem Menezes Cortes on Avenue Presidente Antonio Carlos.
-The bus company is called Viacao Teresopolis. Further details:
http://www.viacaoteresopolis.com.br/
-The buses leave approximately every 1 to 2 hours.
You take a bus to Teresopolis ( it is clearly marked on the platform. To get to the platform, you enter into the TGMC Centre with loads of take-away outlets and you find a sign that says terminal onibus and go up the stairs to the platform).
-You buy a ticket to Teresopolis (approximately 27 Reais).
Before you get on the bus, ask the bus driver that you want to stop at ‘99Km Barriera’.
-The bus journey takes about 50 minutes to one hour.
-As soon as the bus starts to go up hill, it only takes about 7-10 minutes until the stop ‘99Km Barriera’. Remind the bus driver that you want to stop at this stop just as the bus starts to go up hill.
-There are a couple of small little shops where you get off.
-I will come and pick you up, or you can walk to my home from the bus stop. It takes about 10 minutes walk. (if you walk, you can ask directions to the Log Cabin of Leo, or take the first street (it winds back behind the shops) on the left, facing the shops. You follow this street (its a bit of a winding road) and you take the second street on the right (about a 10 minute walk - if you go too far you end up at Rogerio’s restaurant and you can always ask them there where Leo’s cabin is). Leo’s cabin is the first on the right as you go down this street. The exact address is: Paradise Street No. 74, Barrier (but there are no street signs here!).

Option 2
Two buses that only costs about 10 Reais. You catch the first bus from behind the Central Metro Station (300 metres walk from the station). Here are the directions:

The first bus

-Go to the Central Metro Station.
-Exit the station so you are on the street ‘Rua Bento Ribeiro’.
-Walk left along ‘Rua Bento Ribeiro’ until you are outside (on your left hand side):
Terminal Rodoviario ‘Cel Americo Fontenelle’ (Rua Bento Ribeiro).
(it is only 1 or 2 blocks walk, depending on where you exited the Central Metro station)
-At Terminal Rodoviario, buy a ticket to Guapimirim. The ticket currently costs 8.70 reais.
-The buses leave from Terminal Rodoviario to Guapimirim about every hour.
-The bus journey takes approximately one and a half hours.
-The bus will stop at the Plaza of Guapimirim.

The second bus

-You cross the road from Plaza Guapimirim and catch a bus marked ‘Barreira’. It costs 2 Reais.
-The journey takes approximately 20 minutes. You have to ask the bus driver to drop you at Rogerio's Restaurant.
-It is a short walk from Rogerio’s Restaurant. You can ask at the Restaurant for directions to the log cabin of Leo (essentially you walk right from facing the restaurant and follow the road to the left (past the fork in the road to the left) to the first street on the left and Leo’s cabin is the first on the right down this street). The exact address is: Paradise Street No. 74, Barrier (but there are no street signs here!).

Option 3
Two trains and one bus that only costs about 5 reais.

-You get the Saracuruna train from Central do Brasil. You can only get this train until 11am in the morning. The trains leave every hour until 11am.
-Central do Brasil is in the same building as the Central Metro station (so its very easy to access).
-You buy a ticket to Guapimirim which costs about 3 reais, (so you buy one ticket for 2 trains).
-You catch the train to Saracuruna. Then you get a train from Saracuruna to Guapimirim. (its all at the same station that you change trains).
-When you exit the train, you enter onto a road called Rua Professor Rocha Faria. You are able to flag down a bus here from outside the station.
-The bus is called ‘Barreira’.
