About Me

CURRENT MISSION

The endless quest for knowledge.

ABOUT ME

I am known among my friends and acquaintances as a guy who manages to be extremely laid back and opinionated at the same time, can find great joy in solitude yet can truly cherish great company and acquires hobbies and interests the way some people collect stamps. I am also known for having a slightly twisted sense of humor as well as believing that the worst that one can is to take yourself too seriously.(Those who don't know me probably just think that I have some kind of mental disorder.)
I am always eager acquire more knowledge, experience new things and hear another story, for I believe that stories are some the greatest forces in existence.
Although some parts of my profile might make it look as if I am a very scholarly guy who can spend hours in libraries, museums, bookstores and then finish it off with a night at the opera, I also enjoy going out to dance all night long as well as occasionally performing as a DJ at goth/industrial events. I am also a self-taught bass player and used to perform in a band at gigs in Slovenia, Austria and Hungary.

PHILOSOPHY

I strive to combine the relaxed mindset of the primal hunter-gatherer with the righteous respect for honor of the Heroic Dark Ages and the enlightened repertoire of skills and knowledge of the Renaissance Man whilst living in our degenerate western post-industrial society.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A bit of everything: sometimes hosting, sometimes surfing, showing people around and telling stories

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Got to know a lot of interesting people on my travels.

Interests

I probably have too many interests.
Besides spending a lot of time listening to music, reading (I rarely leave my house without a book, a pipe and some tobacco) and when the weather permits hiking through the woods and hills whilst singing random bits of songs (out of tune of course), I occasionally play tabletop role-playing games (yes, I am a bit of a geek) and I adore good food (I love to cook) quality drink (craft beer, red wine and spirits) and fine tobacco (pipes and cigars).
I revere various arts and crafts, myself being an amateur bladesmith and pipemaker.
Being an archaeology student I am naturally interested various eras of history with an emphasis on the Early Middle Ages, the evolution of metalwork and ancient weaponry. My other fields of inquiry/interest are Mythology, Folklore, Philosophy, Languages, Aesthetics and the dark recesses of the human mind.

Music, Movies, and Books

In art I am generally drawn to works which make use of somber, macabre, dystopian, fantastic elements and a kind of dark and socially critical humor.

Books: N. Gaiman, T. Pratchett, W. Gibson, P. K. Dick, G. Orwell, D. Adams G.R.R. Martin, JRR Tolkien, S. King, H.P. Lovecraft and early European literature (Beowulf and the like).

Music: Classical, Post-Punk/Darkwave/Goth, Electronic, Industrial, Metal, Folk, Jazz... as you can see I am not really concerned about genres and appreciate most if not all music performed with passion.

Movies: I am not the kind of person who has to see everything Hollywood has to offer this year, since I don't often watch movies. Some movies that have left a mark upon me are Der Kabinett des Dr. Caligari, Metropolis, The Producers, LOTR, The Dollars Trilogy by Sergio Leone, V for Vendetta, Valhalla Rising, the work of Tarantino and Kubrick.
I probably watch even less TV but I do enjoy British humor (Black Adder, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, 'Allo 'Allo)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Made my own bacon.
Brewed a batch of mead.
Made my own kitchen knife.

Teach, Learn, Share

Besides being able to share with you random tidbits of European history and quite a bit more about Slovene history, most people tell me that I am a great cook, so maybe we can exchange recipes and cooking techniques. (I am also always more than happy to share my knowledge of the other things listed under "Interests")
