About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be balanced, be happy

ABOUT ME

I've just finished my degree in English Literature at Leeds University, and now I'm sort of rootless for the time being, and taking some time to think about the next step. I'm traveling in Sardinia and Spain for the next 2 months :)

PHILOSOPHY

"This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body."

-Walt Whitman

Music, Movies, and Books

Films: Pedro Almodavar, Woody Allen, Wes Anderson etc

Music: Usually a lot of folk, some reggae, blues and african blues (like Ali Farka Toure), 'World music' if that is really a thing, a bit of electronic stuff like Nicholas Jaar... generally boils down to Bob Dylan.

Books: SO many but I really love Virginia Woolf's 'Mrs Dalloway' Salman Rushdie's 'Midnight's children' & Toni Morrison's 'Beloved'. At the moment I am reading a lot of postcolonial writing for my degree course :) Also, loads of Philip Roth, Jane Austen's Persuasion, John Steinbeck's 'The grapes of Wrath'...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Pony trekked up the Andes & swam in bioluminescent plankton at night in Ha Long Bay...

Spent a week in silence at an Open Dharma retreat in Holland

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn about other people. Also love crafts and art and always looking to learn how to cook new things. Everything!!

I started a reading group in Leeds for migrants- I love sharing poetry with others...

also some truly terrible jokes
