About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the world of couchsurfing! Through the "scientific" lens. I am on my final year of a masters degree at Vestfold university college, and I have chosen couchsurfing as my topic for the research paper.

ABOUT ME

25 years of age. Live in a small rented flat in Tønsberg. Lived 3 years in Portsmouth, England while completing my bachelor in Human Geography. When I moved back home to Norway I saved up money for a trip to the US. Traveled for a month i 2012 with a group of strangers across the United States. From New York to Los Angeles. Plan on finishing my masters degree in the spring of 2014, and till then my life revolves pretty much around the hard work that it is.

PHILOSOPHY

I do what I do now to be able to do what I want later.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am writing my masters degree about social network sites like couchsurfing, and even though I do not have the capacity to host anyone I am very much interested in connecting with other surfers, both i Tønsberg and also Oslo area. My main objective for the research project is trust in online communities and especially in communities that combine online and offline activities.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

No couchsurfing experience, except what I heard from other people while living in the UK.

Interests

Travel, obviously. But travel in the micro way. I want to see the small hidden places to eat, dance, drink, swim. But I also appreciate the grand tourist attractions in New York for instance. I usually walk until my legs are soar and my travel companion is fed up. Then i walk some more. I love taking in the sounds, smells and sights you can get while walking in a city or village. I hate feeling like a "cow being stuck in a pen", which is what I say about people in large guided tours. I want to see what I find interesting at the moment, not just what is planned in advance by someone who has done this thousands of times.

The Norwegian outdoors is also one of my great passions. Taking in the colors, smells, sounds and turning off all electronics is magical! Hiking, cross country skiing, running or cycling, it is all great ways of taking in the nature.
