About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience art on a personal level as much as I can.

ABOUT ME

I'm a young writer and photographer just out of college who is currently on a great adventure through Asia. I taught english for a few months this past summer in China and then traveled down to my father's homeland of Indonesia. I love to meet people, write, and listen to music. I love food and art and am very excited about my current and future travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm surfing around South East Asia. Once I'm back in the states and have a place to live and space for a couch I would love to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in Siem Reap, Jakarta, and Probolinggo. I had a fantastic time in each house and have found that it really is the best way to travel.

Interests

I love talking about any kind of music or art. Politics, feminism, and activism are also pretty good topics, but while abroad I would like to keep tensions low. I love books and poetry, especially talking about the ones I know and ones that I do not. And I love people and culture, please sow me your favorite place to go, your favorite music, your favorite art, and your favorite writing, really your favorite anything.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite authors are Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Haruki Murakami, Ernest Hemingway, Jhumpa Lahiri, Cormac McCarthy, Neil Gaiman, and Ray Bradbury.

Some of my favorite poets are Lucile Clifton, Amiri Baraka, Edward Hirsch, Natasha Trethewey, Matthew Olzmann, Robert Hass, John Berryman, Gwendolyn Brooks, and C. K. Williams.

I don't watch a lot of tv, but I'm a huge fan of a few shows; namely Dr. Who, FLCL, Louie, Buffy, and Game of Thrones.

To give you an idea of the music I like here's what I've been listening to lately; Death Grips, Amanda Palmer, Le1f, Leonard Cohen, M83, Leftover Crack, Kanye West, Carla Morrison, and Cat Power. Really anything that reminds me of home.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming in phosphorescent waters off the coast of Ko Chang in Thailand.

A motor bike ride through the mountains of northern Vietnam.

Legong, Barong, and Kecak dance in Ubud, Bali.

The freshest fish I've ever tasted near Parangtritis, Java, Indonesia.

Watching the sunset from my porch in NC, the wooded world around me growing dark and the pulsating echo of cicadas in the trees and crickets in the tall grass. The comfort of my rocking chair and gentle creak as I rocked back and forth in the soft summer air.

Midnight bus rides in Boston when I was younger and the way light fluttered through the wide wide windows.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well I spent four years studying writing and I've been reading for most of my life. I am always willing to talk about literature and poetry and also art and music. I think the best way to learn about this stuff is to experience it and try your hand at it even if you think you're no good you don't have to give it to other people. It can exist for just you if you want it to.
