About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to organise a two month journey through the United States with a friend, using any and all means of transport and lodging.

ABOUT ME

Well I'm basically a guy who has left Britain and has little intention of going back. I've been living in Canada for nearly a year, but haven't done too much travelling here. I've set myself up in a mountain town and am pretty embedded in the whole foreign worker, youth hostel network which supported me when I first arrived. Now I want to go out and do some exploring, and first off the bat is the US. (I will be in Canada for a few years, so have plenty of time to explore this amazing country.) I'm a pretty laid back, but actively participating traveller who is much more interested in seeing as much of the world as possible than collecting material goods. If you see me with a backpack walking down the street, chances are I have most of my belongings right there.

PHILOSOPHY

You should never feel compromised in the way you lead your life by; government bureaucracy, money, other people's expectations, country of origin or past experiences. This is your life to live, and unless you have some kind of familial duty that keeps you back, it is noone else's business how your life proceeds. I'm a big believer in fate, and as such more or less let life do what it wants with me, and since starting to believe in this have had far more interesting experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My place in Banff is free to be used any time by travellers, as I want to be an active part of this great network. I'll also naturally show you all the best places to go, show you all the best ways of travelling around Canada, and generally be a friendly face to get as much out of travelling here as possible.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As yet I have no experience with this way of travelling, though I would say I've been living out of a suitcase for the past two years, since leaving university, and have ample ability when it comes to moving around and setting up shop in a new town. My most notable backpacking experience was two months interrailing round Europe, where I decided this was the life for me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Anything by Scorsese, Coppola, Werner Herzog, Shane Meadows, Sergio Leone, Tarantino. Countless other films.
Books, here we go, my main passion: Irvine Welsh, James Ellroy, David Peace, Salman Rushdie, Haruki Murakami, Hanif Kureishi, Jonathan Franzen, Hunter S Thompson, Brett Easton Ellis, Bernard Cornwell, plenty of others, though these are probably my faves.
Music: classic rock, post-punk, early hip hop, movie soundtracks, house music, ambient.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing probably the most incredible sunset on the Italian plains during interrailing. Looked almost unreal.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a qualification in teaching English, and think I'm a bit more literate than most in telling you how to write a letter, email or speech and how to corner a particular audience. I've helped many people in the past write essays, compose a script, anything prose or academic to do with the English language basically. Or just learning our language.
