About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To throw aside my bonds of societal servitude and run wild and free across the globe, spreading chaos and anarchy from sea to shining sea!

ABOUT ME

Oh goodness, the obligatory 'tell you every interesting trait I can possibly apply to myself' section. I love candlelit dinners, kittens, and long walks on the beach. Hahanope! I am the jokester and entertainer amongst my friends; the sarcastic one whose range of humor goes from "That's what she said!" to numerous blonde jokes I aim at myself (if only I could remember most of them) and beyond. I enjoy being the life of any gathering and make it a point to have everyone enjoy themselves as much as humanly possible!

Beyond that, I've intermittently found myself in college the last 10 years, studying everything from archaeology to theology/philosophy to Sign Language to genetics. I relish the chance to have an intelligent debate over the finer points of religion, sexuality, the original 150 Pokemon (Mewtwo doesn't count!) or existence in general. I am a huge, HUGE nerd and will express my passion for all things science, literature-based, anime, Role Playing, renaissance fairs, or anything else that has caught my fancy.

I. Love. Food. If anyone needs to find a common interest with me, that is it (since everyone has to eat I tend to make a lot of friends this way). I have left buffets weeping in my wake. Italian, Asian, some questionable looking food item from a street vendor you're curious to try but too scared to, just hand it over and I'll let you know what you're missing. That crazy chick who will try scorpion just cause it's there, that's me. Not saying I'll like it, but can't know if I don't try!

I ~can~ be a party girl. If those I am around/traveling with/staying with are the type to come sloughing home at 4am, not able to get in their front door because they can't remember if they should 'push' or 'pull' it open, I will be right there with them telling them "Screw the door, let's just go through the window". That said, I ~can~ be an amazing companion for museum hopping, thrift store browsing, camping out in front of the television, or lazing about under a tree to read for hours on end. I love both paces equally and adjust accordingly to my surroundings, and enjoy intellectual stimulation as much as letting loose on a dance floor or trying to drink a frat boy under the table.

I will approach ~anyone~. I am not shy, coy, an introvert, quiet, nervous, or any other synonyms of any of those words. If you look interesting, I will tell you as much and go from there. If you are sitting in a corner somewhere I will attempt to make you feel as welcome and involved as you are willing to be (I don't harass but I know not everyone finds it easy to make that first introduction). I do not see barriers between languages or cultures; difficulties, yes. Impossibilities, no!

So I think perhaps I've let on a bit about myself at this point, and am certainly open to anyone wishing to approach me to get to know me better. If my disgusting amount of pep and optimism hasn't sent you packing (or the obnoxious length of this intro), hit me up!

PHILOSOPHY

Long story short (if you've read up til this point I doubt you'll believe that), I recently realized I was whittling away my youth, wracking my brains out in college so that I could get a good job that pays well that I might be marginally happy doing, in hopes of one day saving up enough money to sporadically travel in my later years.

And then I snapped. I will never have my youth again, I will never have this opportunity in life if I don't make it for myself. I can't keep puttering away and doing what everyone else thinks I should be doing, insisting that this will be what makes me happy in the long run. I want to climb mountains while my legs are still strong and experience all that I can before I become too old to remember what I see or haven't the energy to enjoy.

Screw what we've been told to do to be successful in life. We're told the formula for success by people who have already missed their window for adventure and/or are too scared to throw caution to the wind and just go for it! Just because it's what they think they need to live peaceably with themselves, doesn't mean it should be expected of you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As I'm not currently able to house anybody (in the process of moving so this may change), I am more than able to act as a lofty spirit guide to any whose path may twist through my homeland.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Um, I was jobless and homeless once when I was 22 so I slept on different friends' couches for a few months if that counts? I'm going to say that it does.

Interests

Interests: Sarcasm. Bawdy jokes. Being barefoot. Cartoons. Booksbooksbooks! Eating. Naps. Science! Not making ridiculous lists.

In all seriousness (take note this doesn't happen often), I love being outdoors and most everything rough-and-tumble.
I love dirt under my fingernails because it means I most likely did something productive that day.
I will fish in complete silence for hours on end (Dad used to say it was the only way to shut me up as a kid; not much has changed).
I will ride a horse until I can no longer feel my legs (I've worked with horses for years, so yes this has happened).
I love music, and will not hesitate move according to the beat.
I love crafts and have a pseudo-side business making assorted goods for friends and family.
I think stage plays are severely underrated and should be enjoyed more often.
I love debating over things that I am passionate about, and even more so things others are passionate about.
I would love to tell you about anything else you may be curious about, just ask.

Music, Movies, and Books

Um, I write Megamind fanfiction, so this is currently my fave movie (dude shut up don't judge). Fave all times are Fifth Element, 12 Angry Men, Across the Universe, V for Vendetta, all the Marvel movies, and anything sci-fi/fantasy/comedy/most action. Not one for girly movies mostly, and really don't like horror/slasher films (although Hitchcock was one of the greatest directors of all times).

Music: Dubstep, folk (I will rock out to some drums), alternative rock, hipster/indie stuff, coffee house voices (Lana Del Rey/Corinne Bailey Rae/Feist), classic rock (seen Styx 7 times in concert woot), whatever you classify Mindless Self Indulgence and Die Antwoord. Little bit of R&B and some rap. Love opera and classical as well.

Books: Shakespeare is my fave. Jane Austen, Emerson and Thoreau as well. Patricia Briggs and Piers Anthony own my soul for sci-fi/fantasy writing. I also read a lot of manga. I've been known to pick up a few coloring books from time to time as well, if you really must know.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Easy. Garner State Park, Garner, Texas. I have camped there once a year for the last 4 years, and running through the park is the Frio River: crystal clear even at 15+ feet deep, and in the late summer it is the most perfect temperature. There is a little area near where we always camp where the water has made something similar I guess to a pool, where the rocks enclose a small area, and you are so far away from any city and any lights, that when the moon is dark you can lay in the pool and look up at the night sky and you would swear that you can see every star that has ever existed. I have actually shed a tear or two when I get to experience this.

Teach, Learn, Share

I hope that I may teach another how to come to terms with their self worth, as it is something most people have problems seeing in themselves (it's much easier to see another person's value more so than our own). I would like to teach acceptance, patience, and love for yourself and for others.

I would like help in learning how to let go of material needs. I've been told my whole life that my success is measured by the things I own and the amount of money I have. I want to let go of all of it, to learn to be completely content not knowing where exactly I will be sleeping that night or where exactly my next meal will be coming from. I just want to learn to let go.
