About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Self-compassion leading to more compassion for others.

ABOUT ME

Juggler, rafter, kayaker, writer, editor, simpatico hombre del corazon.

PHILOSOPHY

I crave the balance between good ideas and good actions. I seek the middle ground where different opinions come together to create great solutions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I roll up my sleeves and pitch in when there's work to be done, share from the heart, and lift a beer when the work is finished.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My two couchsurfing experiences in Central America convinced me to pay it forward when I got back to Oregon. My hosts showed me not only the towns they lived in, but also taught me so much about hosting.

Interests

I'd go anywhere for a good Class III pool-drop river, especially where there are more old-growth trees than people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading: "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz; "The Places that Scare you" by Pema Chodron; & "Barking" by Tom Holt is wicked funny.
Ayla Nereo, Prema Shakti, and Rising Appalachia are my three current favorite singer/musicians, but also Baka Beyond, Derek and the Dominoes, Gypsy Kings.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rowing a 17-foot raft through the Grand Canyon was a life-changing event for me. The Canyon is the greatest cathedral on earth; when I touched the walls of rock that were millions of years old, I realized the full extent of my unimportance and temporality.

Teach, Learn, Share

Skills I have: academia - (math, English, writing, editing), carpentry, juggling, singing, whitewater boating
Skills I want to learn more about: welding, sailing, living in community, sustainable laughter

What I Can Share with Hosts

My gratitude and constant smile, my participation in whatever is happening, from rocking good times to cleaning the kitchen, and an invitation to return the favor when you come to Oregon.

Countries I’ve Visited

Andorra, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Iceland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam
