About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meeting people and learning new things

ABOUT ME

There's not much to say that isn't in the other categories of this description. Find out for yourself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like hosting people, though I may not be at home and available much of the time - still do give it a try. I would also like to couchsurf when traveling, although I have no concrete projects yet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As my boy-friend has been on couch surfing for years, I have hosted a number of people (who aren't in my references) and have always enjoyed it. I am looking forward to new experiences of both hosting and traveling.

Interests

I like most things to do with movement and the outdoors: hiking, climbing, cycling, dance (both watching and dancing myself), kayaking, sailing, different kinds of physical exercise - all of which I do with much enthusiasm, hardly any expertise and only on rare occasions.

Interests that are easier to fit into daily life include reading (mainly science fiction and fantasy nowadays) and meeting people.

Visiting museums and attending events while traveling would be more things worth mentioning.

Plus I love cooking, or rather, eating well ;)
(and complicated with a long list of things I don't eat - which makes me a horrible guest, but a creative cook, so let's see if we can't find something we both like!)

And languages are a kind of hobby of mine, reading, translating and enjoying the funny blunders and little moments of finally getting stuff.

Other than that, I guess my so-called work is my main interest (I know that sounds weird!): I teach people to reach their goals, deal better with physical symptoms and stop old habits they want to get rid of through movement and touch (the approach is called the Grinberg Method). I love the different kind of people I meet there, and seeing how we each have wishes and potentials that will make our life feel so much better and more interesting. And I get to be the one to accompany people in that, which is great.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books, definitely! Some noir detective stuff (e. g. Andrew Vachss, Jörg Juretzka), some fantasy (Robin Hobb is the latest favorite, Charles de Lint, Neil Gaiman), some science fiction (e. g. Michael Marshall Smith, Richard Morgan, Vernor Vinge). Other fiction, often authors that manage to both write beautiful prose and have a story to tell. Arundhati Roy, Salman Rushdie, Neal Stephenson. Gregory David Roberts, Tony Morrison, Margaret Atwood. Max Frisch, Simone de Beauvoir, Emile Zola, Shakespeare, when I feel like something more "classical". Icelandic Sagas have fascinated me for a while, too.
I definitely abhor so-called romantic fiction and chick lit (you know, the pink shelves in the bookstores :(
I do read some non-fiction, but hardly ever in books, rather in magazines like Geo, or on the net.

As for movies, I have periods of going to the cinema, but forget quickly. I am sure there are lots of movies I really liked and wanted to see again and recommend to people, but I just can't remember them now. I did see some TV shows, almost all of Star Trek, Firefly (best scifi on TV ever!), Life, Leverage, 6 Feet Under, Sherlock. Aki Kaurismäki and Jim Jarmusch make great movies. I loved Team America, Saint Jacques, V for Vendetta, Surrogates, some movies by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and different documentaries. But I am really rubbish at remembering movies.

The same goes for music, plus I don't listen to music often. What I do enjoy tends to be alternative rock, folk and singer-songwriter stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably loads, especially those moments when things just fall into place and you accidentally find the perfect place, or food, or thing to do, or meet people by chance and things turn out great.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can definitely give my opinion on texts in the languages I read, and I love proof-reading. And would gladly give Grinberg Method sessions. Plus I have a few mean recipes you might want to learn, mainly heavy vegan deserts lately :)
