About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Starting September 2013, I'd like to do weekend roadtrips and get to know the pacific northwest better -- and make friends en route!
ABOUT ME
Busy university student doing my best to see, do, and learn as much as possible locally and globally.
PHILOSOPHY
I like to stay informed, and to participate. Of course I have my biases -- leftist ones in general -- but I try to maintain my ideals while living in the real world. I make a point of not being dogmatic, and of hearing out other opinions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Unfortunately I don't have my own place as the moment, let alone my own couch, so I cannot host. I'm hoping to travel locally for now, and become a host as soon as my situation changes. That said, I'm brand new to couchsurfing and eager for new ideas and adventures -- so watch this space!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None -- yet. I've previously stayed in hostels quite a bit.
Interests
I love writing, traveling, music, learning languages, politics, history, fashion, art, literature... I'm insatiably curious, and happy to talk about pretty much whatever!

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Control, Casablanca, The Trotsky, Oh Lucky Man, pretty much anything by Ken Loach
Music: Angelic Upstarts, Joy Division, Catch 22, New York Dolls, the Gaslight Anthem, Emilie Autumn, the Clash, Heatmiser, Magnolia Electric Co., Billy Bragg, a bit of opera (Dvorak, Verdi, Wagner), Billy Talent, Jack's Mannequin, Against Me!, Rancid, Flogging Molly, Sticky Little Fingers, and a lot of political music (from Wobblies songs to the Wolfe Tones to Lowkey)
Books: Brideshead Revisited, Raise High The Roofbeam, Carpenters!, A Star Called Henry, War And Peace, Les Miserables, Down And Out In Paris And London, The Honorary Consul, The Collector
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had the chance to stay in a village in the Sahara desert in Morocco, near the border with Algeria. I got to go out on a camel with a guide, get caught in a sand storm (the skirt was a terrible idea), and then spend the night in a valley between sand dunes under more stars than I knew existed.
Teach, Learn, Share
French, very basic Spanish. Some information on the history of the Soviet Union, on Irish republicanism, and on the efforts to build socialism in Cuba. How to write a solid history or political science essay. How to make the world's best macaroni and cheese :)
