ABOUT ME

Worked as a pianist/bandleader on cruise ships for years, then I woke up. Now I'm an organic farmer.

PHILOSOPHY

Do not burn yourself out. Be as I am-a reluctant enthusiast... a part time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there. So get out there and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains. Run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards.

Music, Movies, and Books

Kerouac, Palahniuk, Toni Morrison, Jonathan Safron Foer, Michael Chabon, also a sucker for Patterson, Crichton, and Clancy (what can I say, I'm a dude.) Read many of the classics, and always trying to increase their number. I'll read pretty much anything, I suppose.

I'm a musician, and my answer is the typical "I listen to everything," but some of my favorites are Beethoven's late string 4tets, Chopin Noctournes, Rachmaninov Concerto 3, Tchaik Violin Concerto, Debussy Le Mer, Shostakovich Symphonies (any/all), Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Chick Correa, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, P-Funk, James Brown, Meters, Soulive/Lettuce/Royal Family groups, Foo Fighters, Counting Crows, U2... you can extrapolate from there. It broadens a bit, but those are some of my favs.

TV shows... anything I can get on my hard-drive from a friend. Can't abide commercials.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Working the cruise ship gig was rad from a traveling point of view. I've been very lucky to get to visit many incredible places while earning money. Before that I spent some time touring with bands in the USA which was also a special experience. I'll not make a list of my destinations, otherwise we'd have so much less to talk about!
