About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Stop asking me what I'm doing with my life Carol!

ABOUT ME

I live in an igloo 8 months of the year, and survive by eating moose and drinking maple syrup.

Which may not be strictly true, but it's much more amusing that what I had written here when I signed up for couchsurfing.

Seriously though, I've lived in Nova Scotia up until 18 in a large wooden house built my great great (great?) grandfather. In the winter I build snowmen and in the summer I float down the river on an inner tube. I've inherited an interest in traveling from my father who's been all kinds of places and has told my brothers and I all kinds of stories. Hopefully someday I'll be doing the same.

That's not really ALL about me but if you want to know more I'd be happy to share.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was introduced to couchsurfing by my dad, and we hosted a number of people at our house over the summer of 2013. I started using when I was traveling in Europe, and it was absolutely incredible.

Interests

Riding my bicycle, doing things differently, making things by hand, making people smile, frying eggs, eating cookie dough, pulling corks out of wine bottles, getting drives with strangers, riding my unicycle, trying to explain physics, sitting and observing people, conforming to Canadian stereotypes, taking down a dry tent, playing rugby between math exams, leaving home, and of course going home.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm too forgetful to try thinking of everything, so these are just what comes to mind first ...

Movies:
I watch a lot of movies, they helped me survive high school...
V for Vendetta, Fight Club, Jurassic Park, LotR, Tron (embarassingly), James Bond, Amelie, Micmacs,

Music:
Hey Rosetta!, Arcade Fire, Ratatat, Passenger, The Beatles (of course), Zeds Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Of Monsters and Men, Adventure Club, Queen, Fun., Stars, Beast (the Canadian group), Foxy Shazam, Tom Morello, Against Me!, Al Green (look him up if you don't know him), Apocalyptica, Band of Horses, Ben Folds, Calle 13, Childish Gambino, Deadmau5, Die Antwoord, Eddie Vedder, Flight of the Conchords, Florence and the Machine, Gorillaz, Imagine Dragons ... MGMT ... and some other stuff.

Books:
Ew.

No just kidding- LotR, Shibumi, Shōgun, The Da Vinci Code, Tintin, Asterix & Obelix ... and of course others, I just tend to forget the titles of books. Sometimes I find myself reading a book and then halfway through I realize I've read it before.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watched the sun set in the Andes after spending 13 hours bicycling over the Obispo Pass in Argentina.

Had coffee and cookies with Turkish border police in the middle of a snowstorm.

Rough camped and cooked with a campfire on the beach in Greece for a week near Pyrgos.

Hitch hiked from Amsterdam to Barcelona in four days, and afterwards from Barcelona to Paris in one day.
