About Me

Hello fellow couchpirate! I got started couchsurfing while I lived in Portugal for 2 years. I stayed with many friendly folk over my travels in Europe, and I returned the favor in my cozy home in Lisbon. Now I live in California, where I do research on the brain and study medicine. I don't travel as much as I used to, nor do I get as many guests coming my way, but every now and then I like to get out there and take the seven seas!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing captures what traveling is all about for me. I don't enjoy tourist attractions or check cities off my list. I go to places because I want to live like a local. When I'm in Berlin, I stayed with electronic musicians trying to make it in the clubs. In Marrakech my host and I rode motorcycles through the crowded medinas. Back in Lisbon I take my guests out to my swing dancing classes on Mondays, fado bars on Wednesdays, vegetarian co-ops on Friday, and the highest miradoros every other day. Couchsurfing lets me share how I live and lets me enjoy the lives of others.

Interests

I'm a radio DJ! I do a music show spinning downtempo/chillstep music in the summers, and a talk show on medicine rest of the year. You can check it out on https://pillsonkuci.wordpress.com/

I'm huge on music. I started off listening to 90s rock and Britney Spears (don't blame me, those songs are catchy), but I've gotten more into flamenco, african-latin, and electronic in the recent years. I go to concerts all the time, and play a few instruments as a hobby. I'd love to start a band, so if you want to come jam with me, I'm in! I've already have a handy list of good death-rock-screamo band names ready.

Finally, I'm the kind of person who will gladly labor up a hill for a good view. Something about the twinkling lights over a city warms the cockles of my heart.

Music, Movies, and Books

Too many to recall. Recently though I found this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoaWbxl80U4
Try not to dance to it.

I'm reading a book called Deep Work, about how to concentrate for longer periods of time. I like thinking about how to stretch our minds to new challenges.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have held a human brain in my hands, and it blew my mind.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My enthusiasm for other cultures and stories from the places I've lived. I can share a dinner, cooking something Indian if you'd like. And I can teach you some beginner moves in swing dancing (though that's about all I know myself!) :)

Countries I’ve Visited
