About Me

A little outdated but trying to adjust to life after the living on the road. We traveled 389 days and are trying to get back on our feet and jobs in IT or teaching art leads please pm us. Thank you

CURRENT MISSION

We're currently realizing our mutual lifelong dreams of traveling around the world.

ABOUT US

We left California back in September 2011, went to Hawaii, then Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Turkey, Greece, Italy (Rome, Florence,) Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland and now in New York. Next stop... We're figuring out the specifics as we go. So, wish us luck! Better yet, let us surf your couch! *************************************************We are a couple of people who are as happy being outdoorsy or making stuff as we are sitting watching movies, spending time with our friends or experimenting with culinary concoctions (typically Venice cooking & Tim eating). We are artists and spend quite a bit of our time observing the suburban culture in which we live and love going to galleries to support our friends and find new artists to admire.Venice: I’ve been told that I am Red (Morgan Freeman) from the Shawshank Redemption because I know how to get things. Whether it’s a deal on just about anything or where to find obscure materials for art making, I’m your girl. I am the collector of obscure (useless) information. I love thrift stores and I love to reuse and repurpose. I am very open minded and enjoy spontaneity and new things. I’m always up for an adventure. I like to try things twice, because the first time your preconceptions might get in the way. I love the outdoors, I tell a good story. I have friends that are homeless and friends that are millionaires and everyone in between. I feel like you can learn things from anyone. Garlic and chocolate are my favorite food groups and will go well with any other food but rarely (sometimes!) with each other. I love cooking and experimenting with food. I love cars (racing rebuilding, or modifying,) but also love public transportation. I love to snowboard (when I can.) I really love being around people. Oh, I like to dance and must have music in my life. As an artist, a recurrent object in my work is the book. I hate and love books. My entire life I have feared the written word. Reading and writing are a struggle for me because I have dyslexia. It is my goal to continue developing my artistic language and further explore concepts relating to my experiences in the educational system. I would truly love to be able to pass on encouragement to students with disabilities, as a professor, and let them know that they can achieve their goals.Tim: I have been working as a graphic designer for the last ten years + but wound up getting my bachelors in fine art, emphasis in sculpture. I have always loved making things, but especially physical objects that can be touched. The graphic design part started when I found that you could make a living doodling on a computer. I love photography, fluffy white snow, hiking, listening to and playing music (drums, attempting guitar, and a little ukelele), a good cup of coffee, tilting back a tasty pint, playing poker, eating sushi, and pretty much any means of enjoying time with friends. I am willing to try new things and am trying not to care about looking like an idiot doing them.

PHILOSOPHY

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

-Mark Twain

To move, to breathe, to fly, to float,

To gain all while you give,

To roam the roads of lands remote:

To travel is to live.”

- Hans Christian Andersen

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As much as we love to travel avoiding the "pre-packaged safe for tourists" version of the world around us, we would like to give the same opportunity to others visiting our humble piece of urban sprawl.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It is a very meaningful experience to be welcomed into someones home and life style. I do not believe in using couch surfing to save money, it is about the opportunity to experience a place, while meeting and learning from someone else and gaining new perspectives on the world.

Venice: My family constantly hosted travelers while I was growing up. I have hitch hiked from So. Cal to Washington finding a couch to surf before CS 1997. I have had an open door to anyone that needed a place to crash.

Interests

Teach, Learn, Share

Venice: I love to cook could teach you to cook something, Or sit back and let me make you something we could share. I can teach you how to fix and or make anything need help with a repair if you have access to the basic tools woodworking, metals, to a sewing machine I am a "Jill of most trades". What are your skills? I am hungry to learn.

Tim: I’ve been told I am exceedingly patient and would make a good teacher. I’ve probably taught over a dozen people to snowboard. I can teach you to drum (rudimentary hand drumming or full kit), how to build/fabricate pretty much anything, Photoshop (or other graphic design programs).
